How are the award recipients chosen?
[edit]The article, unlike Rawlings Gold Glove Award, doesn't discuss how the majors decide who wins. Nor is there a photo of a typical award. Will (Talk - contribs) 23:36, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- I agree - it is rather silly to make a list of ballplayers who have "won" this award without giving any information on the rationale on who is chosen. From looking at the list of winners, it is clear that the winner doen't have to be a "slugger" - though it helps! 74.163.42.144 (talk) 04:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I think, similar to the article on the Gold Gloves, that a mention needs to be made of the arbitrary nature of the winners. For example, in 2008 Kevin Youkilis won the Hank Aaron Award as the best offensive player in the American League, but did not recieve the Silver Slugger for being the best offensive first baseman! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.32.89.115 (talk) 17:12, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
The all-time leader for Silver Sluggers at third base is Wade Boggs with 8. A-Rod has 9, but 7 where received at shortstop.
