2018 Updates
[edit]I've rewritten the article and expanded it in a number of areas - feedback welcome.
It gave me a Self-published alert which I believe relates to Fortified-Places.com; I think that's ok since it is not written by one person but contains articles from a number of them plus it provides background so I'm comfortable with it.
I did make a decision to remove most of the references to British regiments; as a former soldier myself, most of them no longer exist (Apart from the Guards. Of course.) and I don't see the relevance. I've cleaned it up and left it in but personally I don't think it belongs here.
