Map location?

[edit]

Erm, just had a closer look at the map (which I usually ignore). Sidmouth appears to be an island in the English Channel!

...but that might just be my old (IE 5.5) browser...  :o(     EdJogg 09:38, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
could be - I've also got IE5 and my map shows the square more in Lyme Bay than on land! Totnesmartin 13:05, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sidmouth is a town in Devon, on the channel, not an island.216.78.55.52 (talk) 10:56, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

pronunciation

[edit]

Is this really pronounced seed-mooth? kwami (talk) 02:38, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, TI. kwami 01:28, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, this is not how the town's name is pronounced. It is said 'Sid-mouth', ie it is pronounced phonetically. If anyone could update the pronunciation guide to show this it would be greatly appreciated!

College Advert?

[edit]

I have deleted a section of the education section of Sidmouth's page as it appears just to be an advert for the local college. Feel free to talk to me about this change if you feel the need.

"Giant fatberg longer than Leaning Tower of Pisa blamed on cooking fats and hygiene products"

[edit]

A notable and newsworthy discovery, certainly. But is a blockage to the sewers of Sidmouth justifiably a part of its "history"? Comparable, say, with the town's appearance in the Domesday Book, or the construction of the Sidmouth Harbour Railway? Thanks Martinevans123 (talk)

Agree. The fatberg is not history; its notability comes from its prominence in the media. A better place would be "Culture->Miscellaneous". Not ideal, perhaps, but better than "history". Other suggestions are invited. I propose making the change in about a week. Feline Hymnic (talk) 18:24, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Marple

[edit]

The article mentions the filming of ITV's Marple story "Sleeping Murder". This version is a travesty of the story. The BBC's version, starting Joan Hickson, is true to the story, and was also filmed in Sidmouth and the surrounding area, especially Otterton, Budleigh Salterton and Cadhay House near Ottery St Mary. 86.165.198.67 (talk) 15:13, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
