Hamlet/Town

[edit]

It is certainly true that hamlet is an acceptable descriptor for a small community according to wp guidelines. However, in Mississippi a hamlet is a special designation created by the legislature[1] and at this time, there is only one, (Bogue Chitto, Lincoln County, Mississippi). I understand that in Oregon, New York, Canada and many other places "hamlet" is a political division, but in Mississippi it is a quaint word and considered antiquated...in any case, using some other designator than hamlet would avoid confusion with the official meaning of hamlet. It is likely that some day in the future some editor will have to cleanup all the designations of hamlets that don't have the official designation. I'm not into edit-wars, you decide whether you want to use the "acceptable" hamlet or choose some other more appropriate word.Whoop there it is! (talk) 20:37, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
