[edit]Shukhov Tower in Moscow is currently under threat of demolition. The tower is at the top of UNESCO's 'Endangered Buildings' list, and there is an international campaign to save it. (Ritabest (talk) 10:02, 8 April 2008 (UTC))
Hyperboloid structures by Shukhov and Gaudi
[edit]According to www.shukhov.ru, the Shukhov Tower served as a model for the towers of La Sagrada Familia but this seems dubious to me. Comments are welcome. --Ghirla | talk 18:18, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Gaudi and Shukhov carried out experiments with hyperbolic structures practically simultaneously in 1880-1895. They did those experiments independently from each other.
The first large structure from Shukhov(http://www.shukhov.org/shukhov.html ) was presented at the All-Russia exhibition in Nizhniy Novgorod in 1896. That was a beautiful lattice steel hyperboloid tower with the height of 25 meters. That tower was moved to Polibino (Lipetsk region). On January 11, 1896 Vladimir Grigorevich Shuhov declared the patent on lattice hyperboloid tower (the patent of Russian empire No 1896 from March 12, 1899). The most known hyperboloid tower from Shukhov is located on Shabolovka in Moscow and has the height of 160 meters: http://www.shukhov.org/tower.html
Antonio Gaudi used structures in the form of hyperbolic paraboloid and hyperboloid in the Sagrada Familia complex of buildings in 1910: http://www.business.otago.ac.nz/SIRC05/conferences/2001/05_burry.pdf
In the palacio Guell, there is one set of interior columns along the main facade with hyperbolic capitals. Also, it appears that the crown of the the famous parabolic vault is a hyperboloid.
The vault of one of the stables at the finca Guell (now the catedra Gaudi) appears to be a hyperboloid.
There is one unique column of sorts in the parc Guell that is a hyperboloid.
Also, in the Sagrada Familia, there are a few places on the nativity facade - a design not equated with Gaudi's ruled-surface design, where the hyperboloid crops up. All around the scene with the pelican, there are numberous examples (including the basket held by one of the figures). There is a hyperboloid adding structural stability to the cypress tree (by connecting it to the bridge). And finally, the "bishop's mitre" spires are capped with hyperboloids.

Restoration/Demolition progress
[edit]In this picture, the top antenna has been removed and a support structure has been erected inside of the tower. Does anybody have information on what's happening with the tower? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.63.253.91 (talk) 13:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
