I've deleted this newly-added and uncited suggested influence. To my recollection, despite the extensive coverage of the series in the UK when it was first transmitted, this was not a connection that was made either by commentators or Poliakoff himself, nor does the latter mention it in the DVD commentary or the published script. - @Nick Cooper: I've never seen this show or heard of it before today, but it sounds exactly like the history of the sale of the Hulton Press Library to Getty Images in the late 1990s. Looking further into it, according to secondary sources, the show specifically describes the exact photos held by Hulton, so the similarity appears intentional. Will try to watch the show soon. - It turns out, the show was indeed based on Hulton according to Jane de Burgh in The Lancet (1999): "Poliakoff based his series on the archive and used their images." Viriditas (talk) 00:28, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
