Turn this article into a list?
[edit]Perhaps this article would better serve its purpose if it were changed into a "List of domesticated Shetland Islands breeds". Such a proposed list could simply enumerate the names of the breeds already listed here—as wikilinks to their existing main articles. That would obviate the need to keep updated this duplicative information here. It would also allow the new list to be easily incorporated into the existing Category: "Lists of breeds". Would this be a worthwhile change? (And if so, would someone more experienced than me be willing to do it?) Thanks. Timbuk-2 (talk) 05:00, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Not a bad idea. List of Scottish breeds provides a possible template although a short 'notes' column to include snippets of the most interesting information might be useful - see List of rulers of the Kingdom of the Isles for an example. I doubt I am going to get the time to do this but if you'd like to have a go in sandbox I'd be happy to help sort out any glitches. The wiki-codes for tables are not that tricky - once you get the hang of it you just keep repeating them. If you are interested let me know. Ben MacDui 13:40, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for your helpful feedback. I'm comfortable building tables, but—if there's a consensus on the proposal—should the page architecture be changed first (i.e., to a list-class "List of domesticated Shetland Islands breeds" from this article-class "Shetland animal breeds")? Or I see now that prior to that, the contents could be turned into a minimalist list of wikilinks or into a simple table. I defer to your judgment (since your user page reveals you to be a native of this parallel-universe Wikipedia-geography) regarding the optimal choice: list or table. I appreciate your thoughts on this. Timbuk-2 (talk) 15:08, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
- I am not a big fan of these 'simple lists' tbh e.g. List of rivers of Italy which are mostly just strings of names whereas List of rivers of Albania looks to me more like a helpful encyclopedia article, so in short I prefer a table (and if this were to happen I also think it could/should be re-named as a list-class page). Renaming the article and re-categorisng it would be easy but I think I'd like to see a draft first so that I can be sure we are not going to lose a lot of information in the process. - Excellent suggestions. Let's see if there's any additional feedback from others. Then I'd be wondering if an interested party might be willing to undertake this. (My Wikipedia plate is full at the moment with other projects.) Again, I thank you. Timbuk-2 (talk) 17:36, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
