Possible merge discussion

[edit]

I don't know how new the 'shelf stero' term is, but I've discovered it just now. I believe, that the article is short enough to be merged into Music centre, as the Shelf stereo article coveres the history of higher-end music equipment from 1980s on, while retro music centres only cover the history of such devices until the end of 1970s. In most countries, 'shelf stereo' is still known as a music centre. The break-off point is the introductin of CDs and the integration of CD players into one unit. -Mardus /talk 19:46, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Music centre with Shelf stereo

[edit]

Formalizing merge discussion from 2018 on Talk:Shelf stereo#Possible merge discussion. Between the two pages, the terms are not clearly defined and shelf stereo may be the same topic as music centre, or at least may be covered on the same page. Ost (talk) 21:17, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good merge target, but the merge material is entirely unsourced, so it would need some citations. - LuckyLouie (talk) 14:36, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds fine, but even better might be to merge both to Home audio; that broader topic page is also very short and poorly referenced; consolidating in one place seems warranted to create one stronger article. Klbrain (talk) 17:10, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ost316: @Klbrain: I think Klbrain is right in saying both should merge with/to Home audio as the topics are much too similar and can be one strong article. Not to mention the articles are currently in a poor state just as you both described. Since the merge proposal has been here for months and without objections, maybe you should go ahead with it now.
Also it's worth taking a look at the German Wikipedia page: they have everything very clearly laid out and described in one single article. In fact it looks like only here in the English Wikipedia do we have 3 separate articles, and each one being quite poor as well. Use the German one as a reference to build it (and maybe we should also rename ours to 'Stereo system' too? As that would be a general common name for everything like Shelf stereo, Mini/Micro system, Component, HiFi etc.) --Fardry (talk) 13:30, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That seems reasonable, as home audio is also sparse. I tagged them and started the discussion Talk:Home audio#Proposed merge of Shelf stereo and music centre into Home audio. I have no prejudice against ending this current discussion. —Ost (talk) 21:06, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A merge to Home audio is appropriate. 21:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC)- LuckyLouie (talk)
Good idea. Merge them to home audio. Binksternet (talk) 01:04, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've merged, integrated and sourced the material into Home audio. If somebody could do the redirects from Shelf stereo and Music centre, and take care of the Talk page attributions, that would be great. - LuckyLouie (talk) 20:57, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
