Sections Needing Attention
[edit]Please note, the current SMSD logo is outdated--the district approved a new logo starting with the 2005-2006 school year. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy handy, but there should be something usable under fair use at www.smsd.org.
Also, there appears to be a conflict in the alumni section for Shawnee Mission East--John Carmack appears listed, although his own personal page says that he did not attend Shawnee Mission East. Would be nice if someone could find a source verifying one or the other (I did a quick search without success). Dougk 01:24, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I just noticed this myself and added {{dubious}} tags to both articles as well as a notice on his bio's talk page. Hopefully someone who can source the information will come across it. 129.93.191.60 08:22, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Ha ha, that small paragraph about the way to properly sing the East school song is true. It should definitely go back in there! Troupkid 04:21, 1 March 2007 (UTC) Troupkid
Also, the choir programs at East and South are the biggest two in the region, respectively. I think that those details are noteworthy. Troupkid 04:22, 1 March 2007 (UTC) Troupkid
I have an updated logo for Shawnee Mission. I'm a new editor and I don't know how to upload it to the page. --Shockeralum (talk) 18:41, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
SMN
[edit]'79 may not have been the first year for Northman; it could have been as early as '77, but no earlier. The '79 Indian has photos of the winners, but '77 & '78 do not. Far from negative, there was resistance to changing the name from BMOC.
Is Calvin Trillin (writer, humorist, NY food critic) an alumnus of SMN? I believe I have read that somewhere, but can't confirm it. Newell Post 04:28, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- OK, so I found he graduated from Southwest, but he may have attended SMN part of the time. Is that true?Newell Post 02:03, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Christa McAuliffe
[edit]Article was edited to changed "first school in nation TO OPEN named for..." to simply "first school in nation named for...". This edit was incorrect. Other districts beat SMSD to naming new schools in her honor. However, only SMSD had a school already under construction and it opened before any of the others.

[edit]full of crap
- Mind explaining why, or finding a neutral way to fix it? ESkog | Talk 03:27, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm not an expert on the history of this article, but I did notice that the section on Shawnee Mission East appears to be missing, while the history shows that it once existed. Did it disappear through vandalism? It did not seem to be any more delete-worthy than the other content on the current page. Here's an old version with East's information --ProdigySim 23:04, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. I reverted the article to the last time when the SME info was still in there. Whether it's vandalism or not, there is no reason to take down what was there if we don't have anything else ready to put up. CharacterZero 01:05, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]- I have rolledback the recent edit as i felt it was not written in an appropriate manner for an encyclopedia. Luckyherb 04:03, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Crestview and South Park are still open (see www.smsd.org). Also threw in the last of the former junior highs, and Hickory Grove (now Horizons). JFMorse 14:06, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
I have added information in the West section that reflects the new Lenexa Hills Elementary School. --Shockeralum (talk) 19:11, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
Criticism
[edit]There isn't a specific source, but it is monitered and checked by the student and teacher population in the School ditrict, so it's factual as far as any one knows. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.52.216.253 (talk • contribs) (UTC 20:30, 3 October 2006)
- Not acceptable. There needs to be some media mention of this criticism, or else Wikipedia just becomes one giant MySpace for everyone to whine about their school/favorite band/hair color/Pokemon. (ESkog)(Talk) 03:05, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Gwen Diamond
[edit]Adult actress Gwen Diamond has been in many movies and should be listed as a notable graduate. Look her up on IMDB. Dont take her name off. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.126.66.112 (talk) 21:02, 27 January 2007 (UTC).
There's not a mascot logo for SM West article.
[edit]Not a matter of life or death. It's just that I'm from the class of 2004, and I still take pride in wearing black and gold. I tried to add a logo back a year or so, and Wikipedia deleted it several times. Do you think there's a way that you could upload the Viking seal? I would really appreciate it. SMN "Tradition"
[edit]The other SMN sections had some fairly questionable grammar, etc, but the tradition section is in DIRE need of some help. "Population" is a tradition? This section would be more aptly named "Trivia," which WP discourages. I'd like to see someone work this into the text, and please consult your English textbooks while you're at it!
Also, is any of this *verifiable*? Information from students/staff is heresay and/or anecdotal and certainly not considered factual according to WP policy.
Out of curiosity, what's the graduation rate? I seem to remember it not being very high back in my day, but then again it's been awhile... Jett rink 18:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- And where, might I ask, is the section for Horizons, that red-headed stepchild of the SMSD? Jett rink 18:07, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:SMN Logo.gif
[edit]Image:SMN Logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

New Edits
[edit]I've Recently made a few edits and made a list of feeder patterns for each of the high schools (Made possible through the usages of SMSD's School Finder, similer to what you would find on wikipedia's page on the neighboring blue valley school district) and eliminated the outdated information, and added a bit extra facts and alumi (Shawnee Mission West's Tyler Lawrence) to boot, and I think the feeder patterns are pretty much accurate, but ill double-check just to be sure. So, what do u guys think? By the way, I want to add more info to the district's page so would u guys think about adding some more or helping/telling me were i would find such info to be able to meet wikipedia's quality standerds as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.31.241.4 (talk) 01:37, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

West Antioch Elementary School
[edit]Why does West Antioch Elementary School keep getting removed from the article? It was an elementary school that was closed in 2004. See [1]. I even had this citation in previously, but it was still removed. Srry about that, i must've been deleting that by accident when i was reorganizing the school's page, I re added that into the new Former Elementary Schools Section of the page. By the way, the citations on were i got the info about the feeder pattern, and the former seperate districts that made up of smsd were from the SMSD School Attendance Boundaries of 2008-2009, and from two other maps that i requested from the district itself, respectively. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Klubbit (talk • contribs) 22:06, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

I added information about the hiring of Dr. Michael Fulton. --Shockeralum (talk) 19:06, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
