Why is Shaq not being allowed on this page?
[edit]Clearly this guy from another country, let me repeat that, FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY, has no idea about the Big AARP if he thinks that Shaq, or SHAW, doesn't belong on this page. Seriously, find something better to do with your time rather than vandalizing relevant information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.234.189.89 (talk) 05:00, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Why is Shaquille O'Neal in here??
[edit]Not sure why he's in this page. Can someone tell me what his link is (if any) to the "Shaw (disambiguation)" page? 98.202.38.225 (talk) 05:32, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- An IP editor (User:204.52.215.134) included him, with the phrase "often referred to as Shaw". However, as far as I can see from his article his nickname is "Shaq", not "Shaw", so he doesn't belong here – I removed him, an apparently different IP (User:68.44.189.161) restored him, and I've now removed him again... If we had evidence that he is indeed known as "Shaw" then we could include him. Richard New Forest (talk) 13:04, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

- My face when Shaq was removed from the Shaw page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.53.179.28 (talk) 20:31, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. However, this still looks like nonsense. What does it mean, and has it anything to do with this page? Richard New Forest (talk) 21:37, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Richard: Perhaps it is because you are from England that you are unawares of the recent nickname of Shaw that has recently been attached to Shaquille O'Neal. In the future, please refrain from editing all articles relating to any person, place, or thing that originates in the United States of America. Being British, might I suggest a trip to the dentist in order to fill the time normally spent editing articles you know nothing about. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.13.129.239 (talk) 22:40, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- Richard: we Americans dont edit your diveball pages
- Why does this page not list Shaquille O'Neal under people? He is widely referred to in the US as Shaw, or often >shaw in print. I believe this page used to redirect to his page and offer this as a disambiguation. I'm going to restore him to the page. 90.192.223.241 (talk) 22:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- implying that it's not common knowledge that one of Shaquille O'Neal's nicknames is >shaw —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.173.208.4 (talk) 22:53, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
- I am quite sure that Shaquille is commonly referred to as both Shaq and Shaw (and alternatively >shaw), as mentioned above. I feel it is best to mention shaw because it is sufficiently notable. Wikipedia is an international encyclopaedia, and everyone can edit it, wherever they happen to be from. There is no need here for personal or cultural attacks: please be civil.
Personally I have no interest whatever in Shaquille O'Neal, but that's neither here nor there. This page is about things called "Shaw", and he doesn't belong here unless he's called that. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and every fact has to be referenced – it is not just a jumble of stuff that people happen to know. That means he can't be included just because we are "quite sure" that he's called "Shaw", nor because it is "common knowledge" that he is. He can be included if a ref can be found for the nickname – and it shouldn't be too hard to find one, if he is indeed called that. The nickname is not mentioned on his WP page: I suggest adding it there, with a ref; then it can also be put here. I'd be happy to help once someone has found the ref. (What does "sup, OSG?" mean...?) Richard New Forest (talk) 22:18, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Shaq, Shaw, The Diesel, The Big Aristotle, The Shaqtus and Witness Protection are all well known nicknames for Shaquille O'Neal —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.16.106 (talk) 21:39, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- Richard: Here is indisputable proof Shaquille O'neal is referred to as both Shaq and Shaw "http://twitter.com/kevin_love/status/2337576939"
- Now please do the right thing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.44.189.161 (talk) 22:00, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- [Edit conflict] OK, so the nickname "Shaw" is now on the Shaquille O'Neal page, and I think further discussion is best done there, leaving him here for the moment. However, I can't find any evidence at all for this nickname – for example this Google search ([1]) doesn't find any mention of it except this WP page itself. Even a recent article about his (very) numerous nicknames doesn't mention it ([2]). Not sure how it can be notable or well-known if no-one's heard of it... Does one Twitter page do it? Need something published. Richard New Forest (talk) 22:10, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
"Shaw" Is NOT a nickname for shaq. This article is currently being raided by 4chan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.13.200.34 (talk • contribs) 23:21, 19 November 2009
- Dear Sirs,
- It appears that we have come to a crossroads about the correct interpretation of Shaquille O'Neal's nickname, Shaw, because of notability issues. I ensure that Shaquille often refers to himself as Shaw as seen in this post from a social networking site he uses. He has endorsed several restaurants with the name. As seen here. I hope this clears up the problem and we can go forth with correctly using the Shaw moniker. Also, the Thrashers are in the playoff race! How ballsy is that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Headsigh (talk • contribs) 23:06, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- That's a reference to Brian Shaw in the Twitter link, for those keeping score at home. And Shaquille O'Neal has nothing to do with Shaw's Crab House. Zagalejo^^^ 23:38, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
This discussion has gone on long enough. There is clearly no proper evidence that this person is called "Shaw", and the inclusion of that name on the Shaquille O'Neal page was swiftly reverted – there are plenty of people there who actually know about the subject. If anyone can produce proper evidence for the nickname, then get it included on that page before putting it here. Blanking and silly repetition is vandalism – please don't do it. If anyone wants to make serious contributions to WP, then they are very welcome – disruption is not welcome and will be reverted. Richard New Forest (talk) 10:23, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
George Bernard Shaw
[edit]User:99.144.243.71 has removed George Bernard Shaw for the third time from this page, with this edit summary: "Removed duplicative entry, G.B. Shaw is found, with other equally famous Shaw's under the "Name" link. The onus IS ON YOU to use discussion to SUPPORT INCLUSION"
(Please see WP:CIVIL, WP:EDITWAR and WP:3RR.)
Dab pages list articles which could have the same name, in this case "Shaw". Anyone who is commonly known as just "Shaw" could justifiably be included, as per WP:MOSDAB. I've looked through the list of people included in Shaw (name), and I can only see one of them who is commonly known as just "Shaw" – George Bernard. Is User:99.144.243.71 truly suggesting that he is not commonly know just as that...? Surely not?
If there is any doubt about him, we need look no further than the Shaw Society: they do not need to be called the "George Bernard Shaw Society".
If there are indeed any other "equally famous Shaws", then yes, we should certainly include them. Which are they? All we need is similar evidence for them that they are commonly known as just "Shaw". Richard New Forest (talk) 21:39, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
