For the record

[edit]

The "For the record" section in the article doesn't mention a series name or a year. As it is its pretty much meaningless. GTHO (talk) 02:44, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty sure it refers to New Zealand Formula Ford, but yeah, agreed. --Falcadore (talk) 02:53, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation of Van in article name

[edit]

Is there a reason why the article title is Shane Van Gisbergen rather than Shane van Gisbergen? The point stable at www.v8supercars.com.au uses Shane van Gisbergen. GTHO (talk) 00:47, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Van Gisbergan made a point of the capitalisation when he arrived in V8 Supercar a couple of years ago. Most (90% roughly) sources have it capitalised. I can't find a source for you and I have a distant memory that is was something to do with Dutch ancestry rather than German. Not sure why V8 Supercar has it wrong, but Formula One's website is consistent proof that official websites do not equate to accuracy. --Falcadore (talk) 20:32, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Stone Brothers Racing site also uses "Shane van Gisbergen". Link GTHO (talk) 03:24, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
His personal Facebook doesn't [1]. --Falcadore (talk) 03:57, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Its odd then that he races with "van Gisbergen" on the side window of his Falcon. 58.160.179.37 (talk) 23:53, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I had the oppurtunity to ask the man himself about this (at Calder Park on 20 September 2011) and Shane advised me that his name should be written as a Shane van Gisbergen, with a lower case v, where used after his first name, or as Van Gisbergen, wth a capital V, where used alone. This would seem to be in accord with the related sentence in the Surname section of the Dutch Names page in Wikipedia. GTHO (talk) 02:50, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Number of Wins

[edit]

Today the number of wins was changed from 8 to 124 yet the number of wins listed is unchanged at eight - so this change seems suspicious. Fleet Lists (talk) 05:44, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalisation, Part II

[edit]

@Kytabu, SchueyFan, and Prisonermonkeys: Seeing as the original 'argument' concluded the issue over capitalisation over 5 years ago, by asking the man himself no less, I am requesting that the page be moved accordingly. As Shane is a fairly prominent driver, I figured I should get a consensus on this first. Any objections? Holdenman05 (talk) 05:11, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No objections here. His official Facebook page uses a lowercase 'v'. – Kytabu 23:35, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rookie the Year — Two Years

[edit]

The fourth paragraph says the following:

”’’After competing in Motocross, Quarter Midgets and karts from 1998 to 2004, van Gisbergen placed third in the 2004/2005 New Zealand Formula First Championship and won the associated Rookie of the Year award.[1] Van Gisbergen had previously obtained a Speedsport Star of Tomorrow Scholarship. A win in 2005/06 New Zealand Formula Ford Championship was accompanied by another Rookie of the Year title and was followed by a second-place finish in 2006/07 Toyota Racing Series.[1]”’’.

Winning a formula ford rookie championship in 05/06 and the same championship again in 06/07 seems a litt unlikely so is there someone who can link to an explanation.,Moriori (talk) 03:29, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And in case you want to engage in a discussion with Moriori... Well, he has since died. RIP. This was his very last edit. Schwede66 05:30, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wendy's Cap during interviews

[edit]

I have a suggestion for customizing your cap. It's already black, with a white Wendy's Logo on it-why not make the white part of the Logo-like a Black Winning Nascar, checkered flag? Then, you could put a Winning Flag to make it look like an explanation point! YOU ARE WELCOME.. Lesley Anderson Mt. Pleasant, Ontario Canada N0E1K0 70.26.0.58 (talk) 00:29, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
