is this just public relations?

[edit]

I feel uncomfortable about this. It has been selected by the RGS, in conjunction with advertiser, but I honestly doubt it means very much. It's just to get column inches for the advertiser. It feels like we are being played. Secretlondon (talk) 21:49, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The RGS say "7 natural wonders" not "the 7 natural wonders" and they say paid partnership (ie ad). Facebook page of RGS. From this the selection was done by the advertiser not by the RGS. Outside of this campaign the "seven natural wonders" isn't a thing. Secretlondon (talk) 21:59, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Secretlondon, I was aware that it was a partnership with Merrell and that it likely doesn't mean much but still seems to have received fairly broad coverage and deserving of an article (in a way most of the "7 wonders of xxx" are promotional in nature). The reporting I read indicated that he RGS selected the wonders eg. "Put together by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), the list identifies areas with shared beauty, uniqueness, and geological significance." and "Dovedale has attracted the accolade from the Royal Geographical Society which partnered with outdoor brand Merrell to select the best places." - Dumelow (talk) 06:47, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
