Requested move

[edit]

I request that this page be moved to Settlements in Israel, for the purposes of redirecting the name Israeli settlements to Israeli settlement. This will require an update of the disambiguation clauses at the top of each article. I assert that this action is appropriate under the doctrine of common usage. --Bb3cxv 16:44, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hmm, I would actually prefer an instant redirect to a dab page that gives the reader (who typed in "Israeli settlement(s)" in the search box) two choices:
  1. Israeli settlements in Israel proper (i.e. towns and cities within the State of Israel)
  2. Israeli settlements elsewhere (i.e. elsewhere in the Land of Israel, or in the Golan/Qunaytira)
Compare the dab-pages for Settlement and Settler (disambiguation), respectively.

"Israeli settlements" is a commonly accepted term meaning the communities built for Israeli Jewish settlers in areas that it captured during the 1967 Six-Day War. The article currently in this place does not refer to this, and instead merely defines the meaning of the combined words "Israeli" and "settlement", and hence is against the common-usage rule. The proponents of this article argue that it applies to the common use of the word settlement. They have not made an argument that it applies to the term "Israeli settlements". The simple solution is to move this article to the unambiguous name "Settlements in Israel" and turn "Israeli settlements" into a redirect to "Israeli settlement". --Bb3cxv 16:44, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
