Canon?

[edit]

Is the comic considered part of canon? lesmana 08:25, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Joss himself was involved with writing it. The Wookieepedian 12:40, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Move Back to Those Left Behind

[edit]

Okay, I moved the page back to its prior title because the last move was not justified. Let me explain why.

First of all, the fact that there will eventually be other comics does not mean that therefore, ipso facto, that it has to be bunched in with Those Left Behind. Plenty of individual television episodes, comic book miniseries, and movies and novels in a series merit their own individual articles on Wikipedia when there is enough information to fill one. Green Lantern Versus Aliens, Green Lantern: Rebirth, and Green Lantern Corps: Recharge, are examples of GL miniseries that have their own articles, and are not simply bunched into the main GL article. If you want to start an article on the next miniseries, or on Serenity comics in general, then do so. You don’t change an existing article devoted to a specific miniseries, particularly when there is little or no info to include on others.

Now I considered creating a separate article for Those Left Behind, or maybe one for Serenity comics in general or the next series. But then I looked at what material we had to fill such an article. It’s next to nothing, and much of what little there was is either incorrect, or uncited. For example:

  • Someone wrote in the edited Intro that there are “several” Serenity comics. The person who did the last move even asserted that TLB is “one of many.” By my rough numerical estimate, there are exactly………….two. And the second one hasn’t come out yet, doesn’t have a name, details on the plot, or even a rough shipping date. So right now, there’s exactly one. That is not “several”, let alone “many.” Why not wait until more details are announced about the next series, and then start an article on it?
  • Someone wrote about “current speculation” about the upcoming series’ plot. But speculation can only be included on WP not only if it is widespread enough to be noteworthy, but if sources for it can be cited. No such source was cited for fan speculation.
  • Also, that same passage mentioned that the speculation was that the story would be on previously-unseen backstory. But the source given actually says that the comic will be set during the continuity of Firefly. Nowhere does it say that it will be a backstory.
  • Lastly, this is unrelated to the issue of individual or group articles on the comics, but I might as well mention it here: Someone wrote that the comics are “considered” canon because Whedon writes them. Considered by whom? Where is the source for this? Personally, I do not doubt that Whedon considers them canon, but unless someone can cite a source where he confirms this, then it is not appropriate for inclusion in a WP article.

A Compromise I didn’t want to totally delete what little info had been complied on the next series, since I don’t want to inconvenience anyone by forcing them to go looking for the links and info when it comes time to create an article for that series, so as a compromise, I decided to include what little info there is on the next series under a section on “Reaction” to TLB, since one can argue that the next series is predicated on the success of TLB, making it relevant to this article. I even gave it greater detail, such as the exact date of the series’ announcement, the fact that it was at WonderCon, and even the backstory comment by including the fact that it’s set during the TV series.

I also retained most of the spelling, grammar, links, spacing, and other minor edits that others had contributed since my last post.

I hope this is acceptable to everyone.Nightscream 05:02, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Move

[edit]

It's unfortunate that User:The Wookieepedian did not see fit to talk to me either here or on my Talk Page about the reasoning behind the various moves, so I have moved the article back. Those Left Behind is not just the name of the trade paperback, which is a specious argument. It's the name of the storyline. Just because they only thought to give the story a subtitle after the mini was published doesn't meant that therefore, ipso facto, that title doesn't refer to it. Using your reasoning, Wookie, the first Star Wars movie actually isn't subtitled, Episode IV: A New Hope, because George Lucas only thought to give it that subtitle after it was in theaters, after he decided there would be a total of three to six episodes. Another example is Raiders of the Lost Ark, which has been retitled Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark to bring it more in line with the subsequent two films that bore the Indiana Jones and...' title format. It's possible, in fact, that the reason Whedon decided upon a subtitle after the series was published was because they anticipated future Serenity/Firefly stories after the success of the first one, and want titles with which they can be differentiated. That way, fans can say things like, "You like the Serenity comics?" "Well, I liked Those Left Behind, but not [fill in the name of a future one here]". I think I provided reasons above for my move, rather than just unilaterally making a drastic decision without any thought to it, and did so in a polite way that I thought would encourage discussion. It's unfortunate that you did not see fit to do the same by at least responding to them, Wookie. This article isn't about Serenity comics. It's about one story in particular.

Also, I accidentally put a period at the end of the title, and could not change it back, because WP kept saying that an article with that name already exists. I left a message on the Talk Page of a more experienced contributor for help, but if anyone here can do it themselves, please do so. Sorry about that. Nightscream 01:57, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize, Nightscream. You have presented good reasons for your move, now I agree with you. BTW, I'll try to get an administrator to remove that period from the title. The Wookieepedian 17:39, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, don't sweat it. And thanks for the period fix. :-) Nightscream 11:56, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting a move

[edit]

I've posted a request on WP:RM to move Talk:Serenity: Those Left Behind. to Talk:Serenity: Those Left Behind, to remove the stray period and match the talk page to the article title. --Muchness 01:44, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's taken care of now. -GTBacchus(talk) 18:47, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Canada's release date

[edit]

As i understand, the only method to have it is through online shipping compagny because there is no distribution of the book in Canada. Do someone know anything on that, on the release date here in the north or do i need to buy it from a US friend?? --Zerat ca 16:20, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Followed by...

[edit]

The Firefly article lists this article as following the series (which is appropriate in a sense) should this article then continue on to the movie? - BalthCat 15:27, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like a good choice to me, as the movie is the next part in the plot (for now at least). Caedus (talk) 14:03, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible merge idea

[edit]

I've had a crazy idea for merging this article and the other Serenity comic, Serenity: Better Days into a single article. Please go to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Firefly#Serenity comics merge idea, read the proposal, and comment. -- saberwyn 10:41, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
