History, Backgrounds and Origins

[edit]

Is the section about the history of the Wadawurrung necessary to an article about Serendip? I thought I'd get some thoughts from others instead of just removing it. PolygonTransit (talk) 13:22, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any reason to remove it, though I would argue the two sections providing historical context should be merged into a single History section. Serendip being located on Wadawurrung country is an important bit of context, particularly given that the sanctuary is itself a response to the ecological degradation of Wadawurrung country since the arrival of settlers, and the story of how Bunjil created the plants and animals on country feels relevant. I suppose we could drop Belin-Belin's final release of wind was so strong it carried Bunjil and his family to the heavens. Bunjil became the star, Altair and his wives became stars on either side of him, given that that isn't quite so directly relevant to Serendip, but I can't say I have a particularly strong opinion on either keeping or removing it.
