[edit]Isn't there a real history to Selune, or is Selune wholly a creation of the Forgotten Realms authors? I'll have to see if there's a wiki page for Selune without the u-umlaut.

- Yes, the Greek goddess of the moon was originally Selene. ‡ Jarlaxle 03:05, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
Selûne, the Moon
[edit]Mentions of the physical moon Selûne link to this page, but there's only information here about the goddess. Shouldn't info about the celestial body be put here as well? I don't know much about it personally, but I do know that it's inhabited. Noneofyourbusiness 22:15, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Noneofyourbusiness. The moon should be listed on Wikipedia, although I'm not sure if it should be part of this article or part of a separate article. If the moon rates a separate article then this article would need to have links to the article about the moon and also to "The Tears of Selûne" (a bunch of Trojan asteroids that follow the moon around Toril). Both of these celestial objects are named after the goddess.
- There are 4 pages of information about the moon contained in a (2e) Spelljammer product called "Realmspace" (pages 25-28). There is also a section about the moon (and the "Tears") in the (3e) Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting hardback (pages 230-231).
- I don't have time for a full write up, but here are the most interesting facts:
- Selûne is tidally locked - so one side permanantly faces inward towards Toril and the other side permanantly faces away from it. Its orbit takes it around Toril exactly 48 times in four calendar years and it is a full moon on the first day of any leap year. (FRCS)
- A magical "blanket" covers the fact of Selûne that faces towards Toril, making it look uninhabitable and lifeless. This spell is a gift from the goddess Leira. It is impossible to see the real appearance of the moon without standing upon it. It has three mountain ranges and its twelve tallest mountains have molten peaks that are so bright that at night you can use their light to read. It also has two seas: "The Northern Sea" and "The Southern Sea". (Realmspace)
- Selûne has several ports located on the "dark side" (the far side). The largest port is called the "Leira Trading Center" and is the most beautiful building on the planet. (Realmspace)
- The population of Selûne is mostly humans and elves. These humans and elves have always lived in harmony with each other, but believe that Toril wants to invade their moon. Leira is a major religion and they actually call their moon Leira rather than Selûne. Both races are paler than the versions on Toril. (Realmspace)
- The goddess Leira was murdered by Cyric during the Time of Troubles. (Wikipedia) I don't know what sort of effect that would have on the population.
