Contradiction

[edit]

Contradiction is that current secretary, Nancy Erickson was appointed and this is an elected office according to this article. TonyTheTiger 18:50, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, she was appointed to an elected office. Under the rules of the Senate, the office of Secretary of the Senate is elected (Erickson was elected by S.Res. 8 (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:S.+Res.+8:). However, by agreement of the two parties, the Majority Leader gets to "appoint" the Secretary of the Senate, and the election is mearly ceremonial. meamemg 01:38, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain this in the article. TonyTheTiger 20:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
