The article currently claims sebastokrator is a "portmanteau" word formed from sebastos and autokrator. But couldn't it much more easily be described as a simple, regular compound from sebastos and krator ('ruler')? Why would the auto- have to play into it?
The statement is currently sourced to Kazhdan's entry in the Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium, which of course is a high-class source. Could somebody check if Kazhdan actually uses the term "portmanteau" here? I wonder, because it's a piece of rather informal linguistic jargon and I'd be a bit surprised if somebody like Kazhdan actually used it. Fut.Perf.☼16:52, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
