POV
This is heavily POV and in any case needs to be merged with Seax-Wica —Ashley Y 10:05, 2004 Jun 1 (UTC)
- Out of curiousity, is there anything left here that anyone feels is too POV-ish? Phil Urich 06:45, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- It looks pretty solid to me. I'd recommend taking down the NPOV tag, unless anybody objects. QuartierLatin1968 18:11, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
removed entire controversy section: NPOV/RS/BLP issues
I removed the entire controversy section itself for the following reasons: it failed to meet a Neutral Point of View standard; it lacked reliable sources (one person's online journal is not reliable, even if it were accurate); and it ran into BLP issues regarding Mark Ventimiglia.
I also removed the response section allegedly from Ventimiglia's press agent for similar reasons - NPOV-wise it served as an attack piece; RS it had no independent third party sources; BLP for issues regarding Ventimiglia and Daven.
In other issues, the alleged press agent seems to be reinterpreting the Rede as a Law, when the denotation of rede is counsel or advice.--Vidkun (talk) 15:33, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Article clean-up
I've just finished cleaning up the article, which was in dire need of it after looking at all the changes to grammar and written style I've added. There were quite a few sentences which had no real grammar at all. Could all future sections and additions (and deletions) be discussed here on the Talk page, please? Thank you, Xxglennxx (talk) 22:06, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
The following line should be removed as it directly contradicts Buckland's own words and vision for Seax-Wica...
The Wikipedia article states "The first elected steward of Seax Wica is Wulfeage (Sean Percival) on 2006,[citation needed] who was elected by covens worldwide and is still steward to this day."
There are several issues with this statement, thus declaring it a fallacy.
1. Raymond Buckland himself states in the updated 2005 edition of "Buckland's Book of Saxon Witchcraft" the following: "I wanted it to be available to both single (Solitary) Witches as well as to groups (covens)." [pg. xi] A large portion of Seax-Wica practitioners are solitary and thus not affiliated with covens. To say that "Sean Percival) on 2006, ..was elected by covens worldwide" is to then neglect a large portion of solitary practitioners and placing them under the "stewardship" of Sean Percival without any say in the matter at hand. For clearly the solitary practitioner was not involved in the alleged "worldwide election". Should a "steward" not also care about the voices of the other portion of the Seax-Wica practitioners?
2. Buckland further states in the same book: "I wanted it to be something anyone can enter without having to.....submit to their rules and regulations." pg. [xii] Thus, it is to then say if Buckland as the founder of Seax-Wica speaks against these rules and regulations, under that 'authority' did Sean Percival and the "worldwide covens" mentioned in the alleged election have to even launch and election to begin with? Buckland NEVER mentioned a need for an elected "steward" after his death.
3. Lastly and most importantly, on pg xii of the aforementioned book, Buckland states: "One other point: there are no Kings, Queens, Popes, or similar in Saxon Witchcraft. I myself have been termed Fæder, meaning "Father" in the sense of Founder, of Seax-Wica. That carries no privileges and gives me no control over others. It is a purely gratuitous title. Covens are autonomous. All Seax-Wica Witches speak only for themselves."
It is clear in Buckland's words the intention behind this quote. There is no single steward, and all practitioners (solitary and coven alike) are the stewards of Seax-Wica. The notion of a single steward is refuted by Buckland's own words that "there are no Kings, Queens, Popes, or similar in Saxon Witchcraft." The notion of "steward" falls in the "or similar" mentioned by Buckland himself.
It is for these reasons that I strongly believe that that the line "The first elected steward of Seax-Wica is Wulfeage (Sean Percival) on 2006,[citation needed] who was elected by covens worldwide and is still steward to this day." should be removed.
