[edit]I think some care with the wording is in order, since AFAIK he was never actually convicted of any offence. We should be especially careful with "paedophilia", since that further carries the overtones of a particular psychological condition, rather than simply the fact of the actual abuse. Similar concerns with "ephebophile", which also isn't a commonly-used term in connection with him, so is even more in need of putting in context (and/or omission). My reworking is admittedly slightly weasly, so a source or two would be nice if anyone cares to add them. Alai 21:53, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
- Looks fine! I just added a bunch of detail, mostly from the book cited by memory - can someone copyedit/POV check? - Ali-oops✍ 01:01, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
Fortune was arrested & charged.
[edit]I saw that documentary 'Suing the Pope'.Yes, Fr. Fortune was arrested & charged with child abuse & buggery, but he committed suicide before the case could go to court. - (Aidan Work 02:09, 28 November 2005 (UTC))
Suicide
[edit]To commit suicide is to commit a criminal offence.
The Samaritans and similar organisations strongly oppose the use of 'commit'; they prefer the use of neutral language such as: he took his own life, he died by his own hand, etc.
