Regarding the patent question, the correct patent for Latent Semantic Indexing is 4839853. Deerwester is listed as the first contributor on the actual patent. The Latent Semantic Analysis and Latent Semantic Indexing pages both list the following as the seminal article on the topic:

  • Scott Deerwester, Susan T. Dumais, George W. Furnas, Thomas K. Landauer, Richard Harshman (1990). "Indexing by Latent Semantic Analysis" (PDF). Journal of the American Society for Information Science. 41 (6): 391–407. doi:10.1002/(SICI)1097-4571(199009)41:6<391::AID-ASI1>3.0.CO;2-9.{{cite journal}}: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (link) Original article where the model was first exposed.

Publications and research work - second paragraph

[edit]

Hello, I noticed the second paragraph in this section is not primarly about Scott Deerwester, and is moreso about Latent Semantic Analysis and how it influences other technology. I think it would be more beneficial to incorporate the relevant information into the previous paragraph, and remove information specifically about LSA, as that has its own article. Adding this section because it would be a rather large change for a rather small article. Ashe763 (talk) 15:57, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
