Mahora Academy Middle School for Girls / Catholic uniform

Catholic school uniform cosplay outift from Negima! Magister Negi Magi.

I've removed this image from the article, as although at face value it seems to be a good representation of a (Catholic) school uniform, it isn't at all. It's a Cosplay outfit from the Negima! Magister anime series. It kind of makes me wonder that if we've included this - why not Harry & Hermione from Hogwarts?

I'm not totally against the image, just think that it may not be the best one for the lede or article. Comments? Chaheel Riens (talk) 12:24, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Australia

I've removed this paragraph:

In recent years in Australia, controversy has arisen over the gender divide apparent in school uniform options. Many schools refuse to allow girls to wear shorts and long pants, and require them to wear dresses or skirts, even when the boys at their school have shorts and long pants options. A range of media articles have argued that to deny girls the right to wear shorts and long pants is to engage in gender discrimination. [1] [2] The inability to move freely, and the concern of modesty that comes with wearing skirts and dresses have also been widely discussed, with many commentators pointing out that boys are not subjected to the same restrictions. [3]. [4] A national group, Girls' Uniform Agenda has formed across Australia to advocate for the rights of all girls in all schools to have the option of shorts and long pants as part of their everyday school uniform options.

I think it would make a good addition, as it shows an alternative gender bias - often it's boys complaining that they cannot wear shorts when girls can wear an assortment of trousers, skirts and dresses. However, it's unsourced. The references are just (presumably) news headings, and don't point anywhere, so cannot be verified. There's also a couple of formatting issues, but they're by-the-by. Tattoos banned?

I've added a {{cn}} tag to each instance where it's claimed that tattoos are not permitted. This needs supporting or clarification, as for example how can a student be reprimanded for a non-visible tattoo? There are multiple locations on the body that would not be visible when in uniform - back, leg, shoulder, etc. In fact, thinking about it - more parts of the body are usually covered than visible.

The Thailand entry currently says "All students are prohibited from colouring their hair or having tattoos on any part of the body" - that seems particularly hard to enforce. Chaheel Riens (talk) 09:52, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Change in category

I have changed the category Education by country to Education lists by county per WP:WPSCH list classification and Education by country's classification as a container category. dross (c · @) 17:14, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Mexico pictures

This article suffers from image creep at the best of times, and we really should be careful how many are added. There is nothing wrong with using a private school uniform as an example from a given country - the article makes mention of the fact multiple times that private schools around the world also use school uniforms.

The article is not to list every combination and possibility, but (as far as illustrations go) to give select examples.

Also, the fact remains that is not an especially good image - low resolution, grainy and poor lighting.

As per WP:BRD please discuss here why your image should be used, rather than just re-inserting it, thanks. Chaheel Riens (talk) 07:15, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Answer:

The P.E. uniform depicted in Mexico's section is unique from a specific private school. I added a picture of the uniform that is worn in most public middle schools in Mexico to provide a better idea of Mexican school policies.

Deleting my picture of the uniform that is worn is most Mexican public middle schools in favor of a private school P.E. uniform, is like using Christ's Hospital uniform as the only sample of British school uniforms.

P.S. Image creep? The most illustrative each section is, the better for me. Unless my addition violates Wikipedia's policies, it won't hurt the article. Chupafrutas (talk) 19:23, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Substitution of certain images used on this page

There are 2 files from Flickr currently being used on this page, File:ギリギリ短 (15580964194).jpg and File:Dorking Schoolgirls Patiently Waiting For Mum (6258299657) (cropped).jpg. Both these photos appear to contain unconsenting minors (whom are likely unaware they are being photographed), and one of the image's Flickr description contains particularly demeaning comments about the 2 subjects. I propose that these images be replaced with the following:

Pinging Orangemike as a courtesy. — Berrely • TalkContribs 19:29, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

To add, I also think that Wikipedia:Image use policy#Moral issues is important. I believe such photos break the clause

Those that unreasonably intrude into the subject's private or family life

Photos of random, semi-anonymous minors clearly taken without consent, albeit in a public place, arguably do break this. Whilst there may not be a reasonable expectation of privacy, there is a reasonable expectation of not having random strangers photograph you and upload photos of you to Flickr. Note that also in the examples section below, there is the following example:

An identifiable child, titled "An obese girl" (potentially derogatory or demeaning)

. The English photograph has identifiable people, and additionally has some very demeaning comments on its Flickr source. — Berrely • TalkContribs 19:33, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Note about religion in India section

The recent edit made on 9th Feb 2022 at India section - "and the Indian education system does not prohibit the children on the ground of religion. There is no discrimination on the basis of religion in the field of education in India. That's why all the children are allowed to wear the same uniform, no matter what religion you belong to" is asserting the obvious and the previous note about allowing of certain religious clothes was specifically edited out without quoting any references. Request the owner of the edit to provide context on the reason for the edit with suitable references Yamarules (talk) 16:21, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
