On which data is the cross section of Sm-149 based? My reference (Karlsruher Nuklidkarte 5. Auflage 1981) says it is 41000 barns and another reference (Nuclear Reactor Analysis by James J. Duderstadt and Louis J. Hamilton p. 576 Copyright 1976) says it is 58500 barns. I assume they are both cross sections for neutron capture and there is no chance for fission... I don't remember where 40140 was from. Knoll Chart of the Nuclides has 40E3 thermal, 31E2 resonance integral. Yes, it is for capture; nothing this light will fission. --JWB (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 05:10, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
