Request for info: army
[edit]I have seen on a few non-reliable web sources that Sam was in the army and rose to the rank of sargeant. Does anybody know if this is true? Please feel free to add info and references in the article.
Thanks.

[edit]Would anybody know where to find a free picture of Sam and/or his brother Rose?
Thanks.

- Possibly -- I will check next time I go by the family's store in Galveston. --Nsaum75 (talk) 15:12, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Merger discussion - Houston crime family
[edit]Proposal to merge Houston crime family into the Sam Maceo page. As it stands the only sourced material seems to be related to Sam Maceo directly, and it has seen unsourced BLP edits related to Tilman Fertitta's family history. To the extent Fertitta's family history is verifiable and notable, it should go on his page. The focus on the Maceo mafia "Houston crime family" itself seems like it most belongs here. - This is debatable.
- First of all, I am puzzled by the monicker "Houston crime family". The city of Houston has had its own crime bosses (e.g. Halfen). And regardless the Maceo syndicate confined its activities mostly to Galveston County so why say "Houston"? I would call this article "Galveston syndicate" or something like that.
- In any event, certainly one can argue that there was a larger history that over time involved Ollie Quinn and Dutch Voight, Sam and Rosario Maceo, and the Fertittas. The Fertittas history after the Maceos certainly has sources but their reign as a crime family (at least a crime family of note) was pretty short as far as I understand. But one can argue that there is a larger story than just Sam Maceo's biography.
- Regardless, this story is already well covered by Free State of Galveston. So the real question is whether there is enough detail about the Galveston syndicate that is worth creating an independent article. If somebody truly wants to invest the time to research all of the details about the family beyond what is in FSOG then this article has merit (with a different name). If not I would argue that this should just redirect to FSOG.

- Since there has been no further discussion I went ahead and redirected HCF here. Aside from the odd choice of name, there has been no further proposal for what content in that article would be appropriate that is not already well covered in other articles. And regardless, I do not see anybody jumping to add content.
