The airport is not listed as João Paulo II anywhere.
The airport's own website calls itself simply Ponta Delgada, and has no mention of João Paulo.
Template:Regions of Portugal: statistical (NUTS3) subregions and intercommunal entities are confused; they are not the same in all regions, and should be sublisted separately in each region: intermunicipal entities are sometimes larger and split by subregions (e.g. the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon has two subregions), some intercommunal entities are containing only parts of subregions. All subregions should be listed explicitly and not assume they are only intermunicipal entities (which accessorily are not statistic subdivisions but real administrative entities, so they should be listed below, probably using a smaller font: we can safely eliminate the subgrouping by type of intermunicipal entity from this box).

Why is this article semi-protected? I don't see much "disruption" in the edit history. The reason the article is semi-protected is because it has been featured in the news on the main page, not because of a turbulent edit-history. This prevents people from jumping to an article and making unchecked edits all at once. That way, editors who are better acquainted with the subject are able to make sure no vandalism slips through. The current level of vandalism threats is at "elevated" (I have one of them widgets on my user page that informs me of this stuff). However, Tuxipedia is correct. When an article subject features on the WP:MAIN page, then they automatically get protected - merely to keep the integrity of Wikipedia intact. If you look for the small padlock icon at the top-right of the article, and hover your cursor over it, then it will show the reason for protection - if it were for disruption or vandalism.
