[edit]Quick correction - The room with the Asps was the one that housed the Ark; the Well of Souls was the room with the map, and contained no asps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.129.167.114 (talk) 14:29, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Name Correction?
[edit]Noted that on the 12 of July, all instances of the name in this article were changed to "Yallah": I rolled it back, assuming vandalism, but does some higher power of cultural sensitivity or Indiana Jones-loving want to tell me otherwise? LHefferman (talk) 02:12, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Steel Beast?
[edit]I have a question regarding the second paragraph in the “Character” section. Someone wrote that in the Last Crusade, Sallah is a “bumbling stereotype who for example, calls a tank a ‘Steel Beast.’” This strikes me a personal interpretation of the character, and not an objective evaluation. To be sure, the character of Marcus Brody was made “bumbling,” but I didn’t see anything that indicated a significant change in the Sallah character. There is a discussion to be had regarding the use of racial and ethnic stereotypes in the Indiana Jones franchise, but I never envisioned that discussion around Sallah. As for his use of the phrase “steel beast”, I have always assumed he was just using a creative metaphor, and did not reflect anything about his character. In the past, there have cases in cinema where certain phrases have been used to indicate a lack of civilization and/or intelligence. I am thinking of the “iron horse” phrase often used by Native American characters in old westerns, but I don’t think that’s what’s happening here. I’ve never thought of Sallah as a stereotypical character. I could be wrong, of course, but I thought we ought to discuss it first. Thoughts? -Fogelmatrix (talk) 21:56, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- Update: Apologies, but I seem to have managed to put my last comment in the middle of someone else's comment. Not sure how I managed that one. I've fixed it. -Fogelmatrix (talk) 19:29, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
