Merge tags
[edit]We don't need two separate articles just because something has changed its name; we do one article at the current name and then redirect the old name to the new one. Bearcat (talk) 09:11, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- The Mercury was notable on its own. If a redirect happens with a merge, the Salem Mercury would need to have its own section in order to preserve the history that the paper had represented at the time. Also, the paper radically changed between ownerships. Silivrenion (talk) 13:41, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
The Eagle has Landed
[edit]if the american eagle was the THIRD name for the paper, how can the salem gazette's FIRST ISSUE have been under that name, much less "technically the only issue"?! Did both name changes take place before the FIRST ISSUE hit the stands??
secondly, the gazette of today launched a few years back (2004 ish?). i don't know the history of the paper, but it strikes me that it was defunct for decades, if not centuries. the article at present implies it's the same paper; more likely, the current team just up and resurrected the name.
i leave it to someone who actually knows, but either way, the article needs a major rewrite. 66.105.218.2 (talk) 09:58, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
