I will take a look at this. It looks a really interesting topic. simongraham (talk) 23:11, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria

[edit]

The six good article criteria:

  • Well written
the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct; and
it complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout etc.
  • Verifiable
it contains a list of all references, presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
all inline citations are from reliable sources;
it contains no original research; and
it contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism.
  • Broad in its coverage
it addresses the main aspects of the topic; and
it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail.
  • Neutral
it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to different points of view.
  • Stable
it does not change significantly from day to day because of any ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  • Illustrated
images are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content; and
images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.

Review

[edit]
  • The page is 93.1% produced by one user, Amitchell125, but is stable. Layout follows MOS:LAYOUT. Images are all own work of same user and licensed under WP:CC-BY but lack alt text as per MOS:ALT. The topic is relevant, covered with a good level of depth and written in an accessible style.
Alt text added. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:52, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Link to Blida goes to the Algerian city.
Now red-linked. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:54, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Link to Costessey goes to the parish rather than the wood.
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 07:58, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Conquest should be lower-case in "Norman conquest of England".
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:02, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The link to the Lambeth library is volatile and sometimes fails. Is there another link?
Citation now removed, as the information in it duplicates ref4, si it's not needed. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:13, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The section titled "Parents" would read better integrated into the following section "Legend", as it is both very short and expands on some legendary information. This would also solve the problem of having the wikilink to Taverham on the second mention of the name.
Done. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:30, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The comma in "He distributed his belongings amongst the needy, and gave away his shoes to a poor man" is superfluous.
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:31, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The line "so that with God's will they would one day take him to where he was to be buried" feels like a quote. Is it?
Sentence amended so that it no longer sounds like a quote. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:34, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The comma in "Walstan was placed inside the church at Bawburgh, with the bishop and monks of Norwich in attendance" is superfluous. I think it would also read better with footnote 18 at the end of the sentence. Link Bishop of Norwich. Do you know what monastery or order the monks represented?
Text amended (with the reference to Norwich edited out, as no diocese of that name existed in the 10th century). Amitchell125 (talk) 08:50, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "a churches in Rongai, Kenya" should be church. Are there any other examples in the world?
The Kenyan example is unique, sentence amended accordingly. Amitchell125 (talk) 09:00, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is an extra possessive in "Walstan's's popularity".
Sorted. Amitchell125 (talk) 09:01, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Spell out Century in "mid 15th C".
Done. Amitchell125 (talk) 09:03, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The sentence "Capgraves' De Sancto Walstano Confessore was first translated into English by David Rollason in 1995." needs some context. Is there any particular relevance in the date?
Removed the sentence as it's not really noteworthy. Amitchell125 (talk) 09:04, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is a really interesting article and a topic worthy of being a GA. simongraham (talk) 00:15, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Simongraham: I've addressed all your comments, I think. Amitchell125 (talk) 16:43, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Promoting: That looks good for GA. Incidentally, I enjoyed reading the discussion in your GAN review for Grimace (composer). simongraham (talk) 13:32, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
