Talk:Sainik Farm

Yes there have been powerful individuals who have eventualy settled in Sainik Farm, but what about those who have been living there for the past thirty years and have been the genuine nature lovers like the Mehta's at number 106. The time when they settled here, there was no amenities, roads etc. They have lived without electricity in scorching summer heat for days on end to fulfill their dreams of being close to nature. Half the time they had to park their vehicle a kilometer away to access their house which was regularly frequented by wild animals including snakes at least once a month. The children grew up here amongst other similar middle class families which are still presently settled around the area. Even today you would find the block would have the same rural ambiance including cows and other animals there. Mehta's are a prime example of the middle class service people who were looking for an alternative to the City chaos. They are no powerful political familiy but a normal middle class family who invested their lifelong earnings and came to Sainik farm for an escape thirty years ago but are being punished for no fault of theirs. There is a differentiation of those who came here to genuinely settle in the natural surrounding and those who have recently settled here to build Palaces. Now to some questionable facts :

Qs : Where was MCD when theses Palaces were being Built ? Ans : Like any other corrupt government officials they were busy taking bribes for letting the rich and powerful build the houses they wanted to. Has anybody gone and searched the houses of Junior/ Snr engineers who have amassed amazing wealth from here ? No, Their punishment is that they have been suspended. Not much of a dent on their crimes they have committed anyways. Whats a Rs. 8000 per month job compared to crores of rupees they have already amassed.

Qs : Why is Sainik Farm not being regularised when more than 1500 colonies have been ? Ans : The answer does not lie in this being a rich estate with big houses being built there. The answer is that Sainik Farm does not have enough VOTE BANK there to influence the politicians. For Politicians they would get more votes by critisizing the rich and famous in Sainik Farm rather than regularising it. So they will drag it till they can and stimulate the lower middle class by pointing that they are doing their level best to keep this colony not on the regularised list.

Its high time Sainik Farm should be regularised and government should regulate the development over there and stop any further illegal development. The residents should be liable to pay the development tax which goes in the right coffers to improve the amenities in this area. This would also aid in removing this place as an attractive source of revenue for the corrupt Government Officials keen on encashing the regulations to their advantage.

Vote-bank aside, another good reason to regularize is the fact that many original buyers/builders are former Army offiers, who paid good money in good faith to the goverment for their allotment. Most of these original dwellers (and their families) are still living on their modest houses - just take a walk down Asoka Avenue, for example. These people, who were willing to give their lives for the nation, should not have to be at the mercy of politicians to have their little piece of land regularized and properly awarded to them.

But isn't this unfair treatment to a honest Army person who hasn't done any illegal act to convert Non-residential land into residential land and than blaming govt. on name of Amry??. If this is true, all govt should allow all army people everywhere to convert any land for residence in any city just because they are Army men. Rules should be same for everyone..

Second is not to compare Sainik farm land with slums. Those people are living in 100 sq ft house with a family of 5 whereas these BIG people live a single person may be in 5000 sq ft. Government shouldn't treat them equally. Both are legal but former is struggling for his survival but latter is bending rules to live luxurious life.. Why not convert Sainik farm in slums and provie a 10X10 ft plot to each current owner of Sainik farm and than regularize it to end so call woes of these people that they are not regularized.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.241.96.5 (talk) 12:07, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

If social equality is the motive then why leave other big estates like Golf Links, Vasant Vihar, Lodhi Road, Friends Colony and GK. They can be divided into plots of 100 sq ft as well. Sainik farm is not the first estate in Delhi where there are big houses and would not be the last either. So why discriminate against Sainik Farm ??? And by the way, India is not a communist state. There seems to be a lost debate in here, which is of the middle class families and Army personnel who are being roped in as "BIG people" which THEY ARE NOT. These were the people with limited resources who paid their lifelong earnings to establish a residential area alloted to them. Non regularisation of Sainik Farm would only result in increased corrupt practices from vested government officials who have an interest in lucrative bribes being extracted from this area. There is no doubt that if regularised this area will be better planned with amenities which have eluded this area for last many decades inspite of the fact that residents have been paying their property taxes here since ages.
