Name

[edit]

Hello Circeus. Thank you for this very nice article. I have one comment. I believe that according to Wikipedia naming conventions, it was better off at the more common name Sagittaria latifolia (13,600 Google hits mostly in English, 835 in the presumably Anglophone "gov" domain), rather than Broadleaf arrowhead (728 Google hits).

Among the non-Latin names, duck potato and wapato both appear also to be more common, although these names are also used for other species in the genus, including at least S. cuneata, so they would probably not be appropriate for an article title.

Questions for eventual clarification in the article

[edit]
  • Are the colonies clonal colonies?
  • It seems odd that roots should bear tubers. Are the roots in question actually rhizomes, or the tubers actually tuberous roots?

Article moved

[edit]

The article was moved from a common name to the botanical. This is per the conventions of WP:Plants, besides, the name is just as nice. Fred 09:34, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cultivation

[edit]

unfortunately, wikipedia is not a how-to manual. this section is almost entirely "how-to" mixed with opinions about what it tastes like. We can describe how people cultivate something, using reliable sources of course, but we can not put unqualified instructions on how to do something in an article. It just needs rephrasing as factual, rather than instuctional. What it tastes like is relevant, if it is from a verifiable source, and not just because it is a food. cygnis insignis 08:15, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, that's kind of what I was saying. Do you happen to have the expertise to do this? Murderbike (talk) 05:38, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
