Yorkshire stint

The article mentions that Tendulkar was the first overseas player to be selected to play for Yorkshire, then directly contradicts itself when it also says that he was picked to replace the injured Craig McDermott (who is obviously also an overseas player, and played for Yorkshire before Tendulkar). I think this section needs clarification, perhaps more explanation and certainly more citations.Phloyd (talk) 10:15, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Craig McDermott was due to play for Yorkshire but was injured before appearing (see http://www.alloutcricket.com/blogs/sundries/aoc-book-club-how-sachin-tendulkar-became-a-yorkie and http://www.cricketcountry.com/cricket-articles/-lsquo-Sachin-Tendulkar-was-convinced-by-Sunil-Gavaskar-to-play-for-Yorkshire-rsquo/32510). There might also be some confusion with Craig White, another fast bowler from Australia. He was born in Yorkshire but grew up in Australia, and so was officially an overseas player (although later played for England). The entry on Viv Richards says that "he is almost unequivocally regarded as the greatest One Day International (ODI) batsman of all time". Vivian Richards had a career average of 47 at a strike rate of 90.2 runs per 100 balls, much higher than Tendulkar's figures, and should be indeed considered the greatest ODI batsman of all time. Second best test batsman in history?

This is a matter of great controversy. He is not "widely acknowledged" to be the second best batsman in test history. Brian Lara is "widely acknowledged" to have been better than him. I should think most people would also put Wally Hammond, Jack Hobbs and Gary Sobers well ahead of Tendulkar. The opening paragraph seriously needs editing — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.163.108 (talk) 12:41, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Even worse, it was actually stated twice in a row. The correct phrasing is that Wisden's called him the second greatest; normally we wouldn't include an opinion of this type in the lead, but Wisden's is so "important" a source in cricket (as far as I've just read) I think it's okay to stay. I am quick failing this nomination: the article is poorly referenced, as it is completely lacking references in many sections, while in others (such as the lead) is has multiple sources for one minor fact. The references that are there lack consistency, include dead links, and could use completing. The article is badly laid out, with unduly short, and unduly long sections. There are sentences which imply original research ("This might have been the beginning of the "decline" phase in his career.." for example.) I would ask that the nominator please consider the GA criteria before continuing with these time-wasting GA nominations, also exhibited at Talk:Shikhar Dhawan/GA1, Talk:Ravindra Jadeja/GA1 and Talk:Ian Bell/GA1. You mean apart from the thoughtful and clearly worded explanation above detailing items that need improvement? Begoontalk 14:02, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

My view on the article is that it is missing coverage of his time in England, I think it is a glaring omission not to have some coverage of him being Yorkshire's first non-English player. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 17:03, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

which community/caste does he belong?

Any thoughts?

Jenis Modi (talk) 00:08, 14 November 2013 (UTC) By birth, Sachin belongs to Saraswat Brahmin cast, but in reality - he does not belong to any nation, caste or creed. He just belongs to Cricket.

write the century in an order

Any thoughts?

Jenis Modi (talk) 00:14, 14 November 2013 (UTC) The centuries are mentioned separately in another wiki page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_International_cricket_centuries_by_Sachin_Tendulkar) and it's already in order. No need to add this in Main page. Closing this request.

Edits required in 'Injuries and decline amid surpassing Bradman's haul'

Some of the statements presented here are too general and unsupported by facts:

Original Paragraph:

Original Paragraph: pradeep During this period from about 2002 ff to 2006–7, tendulkar's batting often seemed to be a shadow of its former self. He was inconsistent, and his big knocks mostly came in sedate, accumulative, uncharacteristic fashion. He seemed to have either cut out or lost the ability to play many shots, including the hook and pull and many other aerial strokes. He also developed a tendency to go without scoring much for long periods and become overtly defensive. While players such as Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis were at the peak of their careers, Sachin's seemed to be in terminal decline

Suggested EDIT:

Debate over Tendulkar's decline in form during 2003-2007:

2003- 2007 is perceived as a period where Sachin Tendulkars career was in a slow decline. This is largely attributed to few important reasons. One of the major reasons for this decline were the career threatening Tennis elbow and Shoulder injury Tendulkar faced in 2005 and 2006 respectively. In Reality Tendulkar continued to a top performer in ODI's during this period(except for 2005) but faced few set backs in tests in 2005 and 2006.However, Tendulkar's changing style and scoring disruption due to injuries coupled with his increasing age, gave the perception that his career was on the decline. In some ways, Tendulkar fell victim to the extraordinary standards he set.

ODI form during 2003-2007

Tendulkar's perceived ODI decline during 2002 to 2007 is something that is totally disproved by statistics[6]. Sachin's average and Strike rate dipped below 40 and 80 respectively only in 2005[7] and 2006 which were the Tennis Elbow, Shoulder Injury years. In fact in 2006, Tendulkar played a few stellar knocks including 2 hundreds against Pakistan and West Indies. 2007 In fact was one of the most productive years in Tendulkar's ODI Career as a batsman.[8] Tendulkar's performance in the 2003 World Cup is rated as one of his best ever and is a record in the World Cup format for highest runs scored by a Batsman[9]

Test form during 2003-2007

Tendulkar's form dipped in tests only in 2005 and 2007 contrary to popular perception[10] that 2003-2007 were decline years. From 2007 Tendulkar caught a second wind in his career and his 2007 average was 55.42 higher than his career average. The year 2003 too witnessed a low average but can only be seen as an aberration as he played only 5 tests including the highly pressurized India-Australia Series.2003 Australia Tour was a major psychological hurdle for Sachin when leading publications and critics criticized him over his failure in the initial tests. Tendulkar came back with a 241 not out in Sydney which is rated by Brian Lara as the greatest innings from Tendulkar he had seen. The innings is famous for Tendulkar not playing a cover drive, one of the most frequent strokes used by a batsman, till he crossed 200 since this shot led to his downfall in the previous 3 innings. [11]

Change of Style and Role :

The era witnessed a cooling down of the explosive tendulkar post the 2003 world cup with the rise of young aggressive batsmen such as Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh,MS Dhoni, gavaskar. Sachin transitioned his gaming style into more of a sheet anchor role which was a phase of self denial for his fans and critics. This also coincided with the rise of the big 3 -Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman which also contributed to a perception of lower contribution from Sachin as a player. The career threatening injuries- Tennis Elbow-2005, shoulder surgery 2006 also contributed significantly to the change in playing style from an aggressor to an Adapter. However this too would change in the years to come. sachin — — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mailerkrishna (talkcontribs) 19:09, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Jenis Modi (talk) 00:19, 14 November 2013 (UTC) Please make your questions clear. It's not understandable. Are you asking when Sachin started wearing t-shirt no 99 and 10?

No! I think he is asking that why has the number changed from 99 to 10. Well... i have no answer to that. Are those numbers even logical? I thought they are just randomly picked. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 09:22, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Request for some wording changes

1) Objection raised for the wording: "He is currently nominated for receiving the Bharat Ratna award." : This is only a demand by the public to confer him a Bharat Ratna but he is not yet been officially nominated by the Government for receiving Bharat Ratna. Of course, we all want it but the wording is not correct.

2) Objection raised for the wording: "He has received honorary doctorates from University of Mysore[15] and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences[16]" : It is true that the Mysore and RGUHS have announced a Honorary Dotorate for Sachin but It is also true that Sachin politely refused to accept the same. So the wording should be changed until he receives a doctorate from any one of them. It can be like "University of Mysore and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences have announced honorary doctorates in his honor. But he has not accepted any of them so far.
