Initial Creation

[edit]

This article was created to fix the odd redirect/disambiguation that was at the top of the "Sabbath School" article. If there are so many different forms of what people thought "Sabbath School" are, then a real disambiguation page should exist. As it is, I'm not sure that this page needs to exist, and correspondingly the odd redirect/disambiguation statement shouldn't exist either. Are there many folks who refer to "Sunday school" as "Sabbath school"? Also, is the "Black Church" referred to as "Sabbath school"? I looked into the "Black Church" which is a redirect to "Biserica Neagra". There is no mention of "Sabbath school" in the article. If I'm using the same logic, then since "Sabbath school" isn't mentioned in the "Sunday school" article, these are not ambiguous or confusable terms; so then "Sunday school" shouldn't be in this disambiguation page, and really this page should not exist. I'll leave this for others to puzzle out, but if that is the case then possibly "Sunday school" and "Biserica Neagra" should go into a "See Also" section in the "Sabbath School" article.

Hebrew Sabbath School

[edit]

I added Hebrew Sabbath School after coming across the following in the 1901–1906 Jewish Encyclopedia [1]:

The Society for Educating Poor and Orphan Hebrew Children (now named "Hebrew Education Society of Baltimore") was founded in 1852, and incorporated in 1860. At present (1901), it has two schools, a daily Hebrew school, and a weekly mission school for religious instruction, whose work is supplemented by that of the Frank Free Sabbath School, established and supported by Mrs. S. L. Frank.

which obviously refers not to a Christian school but to a Jewish one. -- -- -- 03:42, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
