Unverifiable fact
[edit]The following statement was removed from the article because it is plainly inconsistent with data at List of accidents and disasters by death toll. Perhaps this sentence might have been accurate in the 1st decade of the 20th century, but without supporting reference sources, it remains dubious:
- The disaster was the fourth worst loss of life in the wreck of a British-registered civilian vessel (she was registered in Glasgow) in history after the RMS Titanic, RMS Lusitania and RMS Empress of Ireland.
Of course, the sense of this sentence can be restored, if appropriate, when the article is given some re-working. --Tenmei (talk) 13:04, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Could you clarify why you think it's inconsistent? I can see no inconsistency at all other than the fact the Camorta isn't included on that list. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:58, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- I was trying to say that this shipwreck is not the 4th worst disaster at sea ...; but leaving open the vague possibility that this Irrawaddy River tragedy could have significance in the context of the history of the British India Steam Navigation Company. I'm not inclined to research this further at this time, but I'd hoped to leave something open-ended .... In other words, I was perhaps too awkwardly trying to close a door gently. --Tenmei (talk) 15:24, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- But nowhere does it say it was the fourth worst disaster at sea - it quite clearly says it was "the fourth worst loss of life in the wreck of a British-registered civilian vessel"! -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:26, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
