Proposition for new separate article for Fox Sports 1

[edit]

Speed and upcoming all sports network Fox Sports 1 have distinct differences. Giving Fox Sports 1 a new article instead of simply renaming (or "moving") this one would make more sense. This is a complete overhaul and replacement of the channel. FS1 will have a broad focus on all sports, while Speed had a single sport focus. Feel free to add opinions.

..Great job buddy..

Redirection

[edit]

I didn't know there was already a SPEED article in this encyclopedia. Can this one stay? It has more info than this one: SPEED. Mike Hackney

I just changed the SPEED article to redirect this article, so it's all good now.--SonicAD 00:21, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Separate Speedvision article?

[edit]

It might be nice to have a separate Speedvision article to discuss how Speedvision was, rather than just redirecting Speedvision to this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.97.15.41 (talkcontribs) October 18, 2005

SPEED Channel is now simply SPEED

[edit]

During a broadcast today, a driver who was being interviewed, Billy Venturini, referred to the network as "SPEED Channel" and was corretced, being told that the network is now simply called "SPEED" without the "Channel" part. Is a move in order? --Spring Rubber 22:18, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there is aleady a Speed plus Speed (disambiguation). Corporate entities can't really claim exclusive ownership of common words. Trying to distinguish based on case alone seems precarious. One could argue this current SPEED Channel article should become SPEED (Channel) or SPEED (Network). For an extreme approach, see Fox and Fox (disambiguation).
Their web page www.speedtv.com today says...
© Copyright 2006 Speed Channel. All rights reserved.
I don't know if there's some sort of corporate search we could do to track down the legal name of their company. But for now, Speed Channel (not even SPEED Channel) seems sufficient.--SportWagon 19:41, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I asked at insider.speedtv.com, and apparently their desire is to use simply the name SPEED, but the legal process has not been completed yet. Their argument is that Channel does not apply to other associated merchandise they sell. I.e. they want their "brand" to be "SPEED", not "Speed Channel". They did not answer the question about the actual legal name of the company. I should try to try it down some time. That name is presumably public information, even if it's not very well-known.--SportWagon 21:05, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Information at www.bizjournals.com/charlotte perhaps this link (though it may be transient, and you'll need to re-search) suggests the current name is Speed Channel, Inc.. So I guess they may be trying to rename to SPEED, Inc.? A search at that site finds a lot of companies with Speed in their name, including a Speedvision that actually was a different organization from the previous incarnation of Speed Channel. It's not clear to me the Speed Channel info there has been updated since late 2005, however.--SportWagon 21:16, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Per this, I have moved the article to SPEED (TV channel) per Wikipedia naming standards. ViperSnake151 17:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BTCC on SPEED

[edit]

As many of you who write this in the US, can any of you be able to provide proof that if SPEED still screen the British Touring Car Championship as I still got a copy of a JAN '98 issue of Racer magazine and the BTCC is listed on the channel.

I can provide proof with my eyes, anyway, and there was no BTCC coverage this off-season (2007-2008). They did show V8 Supercars Australia and DTM as usual, but no BTCC. Anyway, I torrented them throughout the year, so at least the channel, in the past, opened my eyes to the series and I found the action myself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Senna27 (talkcontribs) 15:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speed has nascar becasue of its humongus fanbase

[edit]

about the aboumt of nascar on the network Dave Dispane blew up on the air and he said "I KNOW THERE IS TO MUCH GOD DAMN NASCAR ON THE NETOWORK BECAUSE THERE IS TO MANY GOD DAMN NASCAR FANS!"

btw for those of you who insult nascar and your f1 fans you are no better then insulting some one elses religion (Racerboy 15:44, 20 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Lead section

[edit]

Is a little long. Could do with most going under a "History" heading. Rich Farmbrough, 10:04 14 February 2007 (GMT).

After all, the page doesn't currently start with "SPEED Channel is a channel ...". I'll think about what it is, and try to avoid sounding inane.--SportWagon 19:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the cleanup. I always forget the "mostly lowercase in headings" rule.--SportWagon 19:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Channel or Network?

[edit]

Bleah. So I made it say "SPEED Channel is a channel. I've hidden it a little bit, so it's not too inane. Right now the article reads inconsistently, since I can't really see how the entity is a television network rather than a television channel, since no local affiliate content is ever added. But I don't feel strongly enough about it right now to unilaterally remove the inconsistency.

With respect to:

In late 2005, SPEED Channel rebranded themselves as SPEED, cancelling some TV shows including NASCAR Nation.

I don't know it that was a legal organizational change, or just a change of company conventions and standards. See now simply SPEED above.--SportWagon 22:53, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

SPEED (TV channel)Speed (TV channel) — Manual of Style (trademarks); "SPEED" is not the acronym S.P.E.E.D. —Fatsamsgrandslam (talk) 12:48, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Company's official name is "The Speed Channel, Inc": Speed TV official site. Plenty of examples of "Speed TV" used by reliable sources: Google News search.

"it quit coverage of WRC, due to its current NASCAR contract"

[edit]

What does this mean? I seriously doubt that NASCAR forced Speed to stop showing WRC events, but that's what's implied by that statement. 169.233.38.156 (talk) 05:28, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current 'NASCAR' Monday night lineup

[edit]

The program lists are outdated, the shows (although most are vaguely related to the sport- note the quotes in the heading)have not been added or even have pages; really the whole program list needs a major overhaul.--raganbaby_6 20:50, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Eh, nevermind on the Monday lineup, as it has since fizzled. I did however create an article for the Hurry show which did have a Monday version (but has since been cancelled along with What's The Deal? with Jimmy Spencer)--raganbaby_6 18:45, 18 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raganbaby 6 (talkcontribs)

End of Speed Speech on 8-17-13 Video?

[edit]

Does anybody out there have a video of Speed's farewell speech from 6am on 8-17-13?

If so, I'm sure some, like myself, would like to see it.

I'm just asking this out of curiosity, after having seen a video of the final moments of the Fine Living Network involving the Grim Reaper back on 5/31/10 before it changed to Cooking Channel.

Thanks for the help. I had been looking everywhere for this. I cant stand stick and ball sports and will miss Speed very much. It brings back memories of them ruining MTV and Headline News. RIP Speed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.23.40.195 (talk) 16:12, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge the Speed Channel article into Fox Sports 1
