Why is Sutton SM, not SU?
[edit]I can't find any answer to this on the web...... So why was SU shunned? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.9.46.250 (talk) 23:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/statistics/geography/scosett/annex-c/why-use-postcodes.html maybe is a possible answer? --Davelane (talk) 22:30, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- No, because Luton is LU. Is it maybe Sutton and Morden? Who knows? (And even more puzzlingly, why is Ilford IG and not IL?) Draggleduck (talk) 17:27, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I've also heard the Sutton and Morden theory. Similarly, for IG, one theory I've read is that it stands for Ilford and Woodford Green. Herbaltablet (talk) 23:08, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
