This page is a Talk-page for discussions about the SMTP-AUTH article. You can edit it like most other pages, just add new issues at the bottom, e.g new comments at the end of the relevant section. Talk-pages are like a forum, newsgroup, or bulletin board, please don't modify or remove parts you haven't written, unless you archive it.

For a clumsy threading use colons at the start of the line in replies (one colon more than the answered text) , and please sign your comments with four tildes ~~~~.

Above all don't panic, there's an edit history, mistakes can be reverted.   Created: 2024-12-28 23:41 UTC.

APOP

[edit]

Hi, I've removed APOP from "See also" for the moment, it's a redirection to POP3 offering no further info about SASL or SMTP authentication.

It could make sense if we'd have a chapter about one "predecessor" of SMTP AUTH known as POP before SMTP or SMTP after POP. A clumsy method with several chances to screw up royally, but admittedly it's also possible to get it right, and APOP before SMTP is better than AUTH LOGIN (a plain base64 USER PASS style of authentication) for insecure connections. SASL

[edit]

Hi, is the reference to RFC 2222 correct, or should it be updated to RFC 4422 instead? AntoineL 12:03, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would appear 4422 is the current RFC. I've updated the article. -- Rick Block (talk) 18:16, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFC 4954

[edit]

It appears that RFC 4954 makes RFC 2554 obsolete as of July 2007. --41.243.16.152 12:24, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
