Location of Article
[edit]I think the article should be under SESAC and not Society of European Authors & Composers as it no longer means that It's only there for historical explanation. Many acronyms have lost their meanings and we don't call them by that and I don't think SESAC should be an exception. --Shimonnyman 09:24, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
Keep editing!
[edit]I recently edited this page and got this in my email inbox {edits and comments in curly braces like these}:
Subject: SESAC Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2007 15:26:54 -0500 Message-ID: <E62350D4111FD34081903F43AE2AA15302D10667@EXCHANGE1.sesac.com> Thread-Topic: SESAC Thread-Index: AcfIsNC+w08C9TV2RdCmYo0dA+Tekg== From: "{***}" <{***}@SESAC.com> To: <{my email address from [http://toby.bartels.name/]}> Hi Toby! Don't know who you are but would appreciate it if you would quit editing the SESAC / Wikipedia profile. Your information is incorrect and editing that page is not really the responsibility of anyone outside of a SESAC employee. Thanks! If you do not wish to receive future commercial e-mail messages from SESAC, you may send an e-mail message from this address to optout@sesac.com CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: {bogus, and cut}
I don't know
- if this is a rogue SESAC employee,
- if SESAC is really trying to intimidate people,
- if the people at SESAC just don't understand how Wikipedia works, or
if this is email is a fake from somebody trying to make SESAC (or this individual) look bad.
But in any case, I know that it's complete garbage.
Note to other editors: If you get a message like this, you should feel absolutely free to ignore it!

Update: I've had a short email conversation with this person, with my email sent to the return address, so it seems to be real. Thus, I removed the last possibility and cut the identifying/tracing information from the email as posted here. —Toby Bartels 00:26, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Five years later ... Shawneebelle is back and sent me another email, which was handy, because it alerted me to the trouble. I blocked the account on the grounds of the 3-revert rule. I would be very happy for an administrator more experienced in such matters to review this block. —Toby Bartels (talk) 17:55, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Recent YT music block
[edit]Should we do an update for the recent block of music on YouTube? LootLlama7708 (talk) 22:29, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- yeah, and should i add links on the bands on the list that were removed? HolyRamenEmpire (talk) 23:58, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- And on a similar note, should other bands be added that have not been already? A smaller band I know called Bombadil is facing the same issue currently, but for obvious reasons news sources haven't really covered it. Andrew57961 (talk) 13:01, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- I believe so. HolyRamenEmpire (talk) 13:18, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- I've noticed the bands Wolf Alice and Lord Huron appear to be affected by it as well, unsure if they should be added though, I don't have a source actually talking about them, but as of right now it's pretty easy to check. Erated8 (talk) 02:46, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

- People are editing based on it. An anon added "a corrupt" to the first sentence of the article presumably over this; we may get more vandalism like this Saxy42 (talk) 06:27, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- An act of vandalism has been locked into the YouTube block section, saying that Mariah Carey music being blocked is a good thing.
- Was going to edit to remove, but it's locked in. 74.124.187.112 (talk) 19:25, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- At this point, I feel as though this blip in availability isn't significant enough to warrant a section of this article. 3 days of unavailability before being returned is pretty insubstantial, and especially because this is a pretty short article to begin with, it feels out of place. 12.171.30.237 (talk) 03:13, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Duplicate artist in list
[edit]Is there a reason why Alice in Chains is listed twice in the list of affected artists? 147.161.251.111 (talk) 10:59, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Missing
[edit]Kat dahlia is also blocked 107.193.174.115 (talk) 23:57, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dan Deacon is another blocked artist as well 12.171.30.237 (talk) 05:39, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Source With List of Artists Affected
[edit]I found this article with a list of artists that have been affected by the removal of songs from Youtube. It isn't a full list as it doesn't contain artists like At the Drive-In or Muse who had videos removed as well. Hope this is a good enough article for the list on here.
