Marriage

ryan lochte was married on the 12th april —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.22.37.156 (talk) 12:40, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

actually, ryan lochte was never married. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.79.9.66 (talk) 19:14, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect first paragraph

The first paragraph is incorrect, during the 2008 olympics so far, ryan won the silver medal in the 200IM instead of the bronze. He also won the gold in the 4x200 freestyle, not the 2x400.(Joannmn (talk) 06:07, 15 August

International Career

It still says he qualified for the 200m backstroke the 200m IM but he already swam and meddled in those races so the fact that he qualified is assumed in the fact that he meddled.

Mistake in Personal Life

Ryan Lochte is listed as dating Caroline Burckle. He has recently stated that he is currently single, in several articles. This edit was added only recently, but with an outdated source. Please remove it. (Unitschea (talk) 13:22, 7 October 2008 (UTC))

I removed this statement. It is not really confirmable.Ryanjo (talk) 00:15, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I have never edited anything before but I noticed Lochte has two birthplaces, Rochester and Canandaigua... Can someone fix this inconsistency please :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.249.213.41 (talk) 02:19, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

There is also a contradiction between the "Early Life" and "Personal Life" paragraphs - one says he was born in Rochester, the other says he was born in Canandaigua. In any case, there is no need for both paragraphs to state the exact same information as a main point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.46.254.140 (talk) 22:00, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Best Times

I know that official best times must be flat starts, but best times should show what the swimmer is capable of swimming. Ryan doesn't normally swim the 200 free (at least not in major meets where he has properly tapered) so his official 200 free times are significantly slower than the times he records as part of the 4x200 free relay. 1:45.61 is his official best time in the event where his best relay time is 1:44.28. I wanted to see what the Americans could swim in the 800 free relay, and the 1:45.61 does not accurately depict his ability to swim this event. I guess if it really bothers anyone, there could be a second row for the relay time.Ocdmuch (talk) 13:59, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

I think another row should be added to the 200 m freestyle with Lochte's relay split best time. Therefore, we'll know what Lochte is capable of doing and have an official time for the individual 200 free. Campms2 (talk) 14:35, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Ryan Lochte GA status

I've (Philip) been working extensively this week trying to get this article to at least a subpar status. I've been making good progress and I believe by at least next week, I can get this article to good article status. For the most part, I've been expanding this article and adding references. So what else is needed? Bottom line, This article needs further expansion. If anyone wants to help me (which would be appreciated), please talk to (me) and we can hash out the details.

Also, I'm not logged in cause I don't trust these government computers.68.5.214.41 (talk) 03:24, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

succession boxes

I think the succession boxes are less helpful to the reader in chronological order than grouped by event (and merged like say Barry Bonds or Jessica Hardy). Imagine if Bond's succession boxes were chronological order. In this case, I am having trouble seeing which records he held multiple times.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:56, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Birthplace needs correcting

The top of the article (Early life paragraph) and the Infobox list Rochester, New York as his birthplace, yet under "Personal life", it says he was born in Canandaigua, New York. Obviously, one of these is incorrect, since it can't be both. Canandaigua is a suburb of Rochester, about 25 miles away. I don't know enough about Ryan to correct this, but hopefully someone will. It should be consistent and list one or the other city as his birthplace, not both. BucsWeb (talk) 12:02, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Contradictory sentences in same paragraph

"Lochte only began taking swimming seriously when he was a junior in high school...

"At fourteen years old, Ryan's loss at the Junior Olympics changed his attitude for swimming: "I suddenly said, 'I'm sick of losing'."

Unless he was a junior at age fourteen (two years earlier than usual), these two sentences can't both be right. GeneCallahan (talk) 05:07, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Another contradiction: 2008 games

The info box says Lochte got bronze in the 400 IM in 2008, while the text says he finished second. GeneCallahan (talk) 05:07, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

The text referred to the 2008 trials which was not very clear, so I introduced subsections. Gap9551 (talk) 16:56, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Interview with ESPN.com

Lochte's interview with ESPN the Magazine regarding sex at Olympic Village should be left in the Personal Life section. Lochte's quote contains information germane to his biography, including (1) his relationship status as of Summer 2008 (2) his perspectives on social aspects of the Olympic village and (3) insight into his views on morality and sexual activity. No other section in his biography contains this information.Wikieditor987654321 (talk) 00:55, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Totally irrelevant information that should not be added. Just a useless soundbite that some how made it in the news. Philipmj24 (talk) 01:32, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Respectfully disagree. I see Wikieditor987654321's points and think the quote complements the bio nicely. It doesn't make Lochte look that great, but it's part of the public record that documents his relationship status in 2008. It's no less relevant than the quip about the Australian swimmer or any other Wiki entry discussing rumors about someone dating someone else.JacksontfordLA (talk) 01:49, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Jackson for the support. Philipmj24, is it possible to come to some resolution through compromise as suggested in Wikipedia's dispute resolution guidelines? Lochte is quoted several times throughout the ESPN article, but this quote in particular provides valuable insight into his personal life and social activity. Perhaps we can include some of the information without a direct quote or by parsing certain information? I am open to compromise suggestions but think it's important to include this information in some capacity.Wikieditor987654321 (talk) 02:19, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Sock puppet alert. FYI, Philip, you're having a multi-sided discussion with one person who has two Wikipedia accounts. For what it's worth, I agree with you. Just because something is on "the public record" does not mean that it has to be recounted in the subject's Wikipedia article per WP:WEIGHT. Not every quote is relevant to his international swimming career, the principal reason for his notability, nor are "views on morality and sexual activity" or his "relationship status" at the time of the Olympics. He's not the pope, and until he publicly declares that he is shagging, dating, engaged, or married to someone, his relationships status is pretty darn near irrelevant. This is an encyclopedia, not People magazine. If the talk page consensus is to omit the gossipy tidbits and the subject's off-the-cuff comments about tangential subjects, we can decide to do that right here. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:21, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for weighing in Dirtlawyer, although I disagree with you. The page cites his impending appearance on the Bachelor (added by another user), thereby making his views on dating and relationships relevant, especially since the Olympics won't happen for another four years, so his celebrity status will almost certainly shift from athlete to pop culture icon. If he appears on the Bachelor--or the host of other dating/reality shows that he's been rumored on (I can find cites if needed)--his views on these matters will garner intense speculation. I understand you may still disagree, but I think it's worth having the dialogue. Also, I'd like to set the record straight: Jackson Ford is not me (but he is my roommate using my computer who agrees with the opinion stated here and hopes to engage in more Wiki editing soon).Wikieditor987654321 (talk) 02:55, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
One other point, I think your reference to WP:WEIGHT isn't quite appropriate here as, from my understanding, that refers to providing balanced perspectives on controversial issues. Per your cite, the fix would not be to delete the quote due to relevance but to add another quote or piece of supporting evidence that properly contextualizes his views on sex and relationships. For example, "Ryan Lochte in 2011 gave speeches on abstinence to high schoolers" or something like that (Dumb example but you get the idea). A minor point, but I think one that's worth mentioning. Thanks again for weighing in and please bear with me as I'm relatively new at the Wikipedia editing process.Wikieditor987654321 (talk) 03:09, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
