Conflict

Rachel McAdams's page says she lives in Toronto with her family. This page says she lives with Ryan Gosling. Please fix or clarify if Gosling is considered family. Liek omg!!!!! cookiecaper (talk / contribs) 07:00, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Headings & image

In so far as headings are needed at all in such a short article, it makes more sense to divide the text roughly into half than to place the heading after the first sentence; the whole article is a biography of Gosling, so why have a section that's virtually the whole article called "Biography"?

The image is thumb-nailed so that readers can decide whether they want to see a larger version or not; enlarging thumbs to a fixed size can sometimes be useful in order to make different images fit with each other (and with other elements, such as infoboxes and tables), but otherwise it defeats the purpose of thumn-nailing in the first place. It also loses sight of the fact that different readers will have different browsers configured differently; fixing the image size can radically change its relatinship with text, etc. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 07:48, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Mel Etitis it is impossible to win an argument with you, so I am not going for it. :) However, if we divide the text roughly in half, why not just go ahead and call them "Part 1" and "Part 2"? :) :) Mad Jack O'Lantern 07:50, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Citations Needed

The article is rife with uncited statements which, of course, we cannot have in Wikipedia. Please find references for all of the unsourced statemetns, or they will have to be removed. Normally, this would be lax, but this sort of removal falls under BLP, and so it needs to be sourced right away or removed. I'll check back a few days. At that time, unsourced data should eitherbe cited or removed. Arcayne (cast a spell) 22:55, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm working on some of it. A lot of the cn'ed statements are easily verifiable; it's just a matter of googling. María (habla conmigo) 23:45, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
I think I've covered all of them. Does it pass? María (habla conmigo) 00:30, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

A Londoner ?

I have challenged on the London, Ontario page that Ryan Gosling should not be noted as being from London. Although he was born there, he never spent enough time to be considered a Londoner. Based on his bio, he grew up in Cornwall and migrated to Burlington. I think he would consider those places his home. Can anyone shed some light on this. 216.191.213.114 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 15:36, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Personal Life...

i found out that he and Rachel McAdams are going out again so can someone please change that in the personal life section..i dunno how, sorry :) 70.69.136.235 (talk) 00:48, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

First of all, you need a reliable citation. Second of all, as of August 2008, I have read in People Magazine that reps for both McAdams and Gosling are not saying anything about the relationship. We cannot rely on speculation alone and I believe that it would be best that we wait until it is actually official and reported in a reliable source. If you have any problems with this, please discuss! Ms. Sarita (talk) 00:59, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
I added info and a source, please feel free to undo if you feel that its unreliable. DrNegative (talk) 15:53, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Ryan's humanitarian work

Hi, just noticed that Ryan's work with the Enough Project has been deleted - don't know why, as it is important. Anyone mind if I reinsert it in one form or another? thanks.--Jespah 19:19, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Ryan Gosling attacking schoolmates with knives

There's been a post on Reddit about this line in the Early life section:

"In Grade 1, having been heavily influenced by the film First Blood, he took steak knives to school and threw them at other children during recess. This incident led to a suspension [12]"

The linked citation does not resolve, and thus no longer provides a reliable reference to this line.

I have found what I believe to be the same interview (same name: "Ryan Gosling's on a Roll", and about the same date as listed on the History page: Aug 2011), and while it mentions watching "First Blood" as a child, it does not mention anything about attacking anyone with knives.

My suggestion would be to remove the line until a current reference can be found.

UPDATE: I've found the article. Different name as listed in the citation but the same authour and has the relevant information.

I'll edit the citation to reflect the new page. 174.112.199.150 (talk) 16:25, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

I am not comfortable with this 35% reduction of the article. Anyone willing to go through the edits? Nymf hideliho! 18:22, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Viral internet memes about Gosling I posted about 2 blogs dealing with feminist issues, and featuring Gosling. It was removed almost as soon as I posted it. Can someone tell me why it was removed? This was my first edit, so dont quite know how it works here, but do give me the feedback so I can keep contributing. This is the text I posted.

"He is also featured on two blogs- "Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling" ([1]) and "Feminist Ryan Gosling." ([2]) They both use the meme format with pictures of Ryan Gosling with text that begins with the phrase "Hey Girl." Gosling is not known to have said any of the statements on these blogs though he is aware of them and has spoken about the popular blog "Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling" in an interview with MTV ([3]). The content in "Feminist Ryan Gosling" is academic in nature, with focus on gender theory and women's studies. The content on the other blog is mostly humourous." Mickey Su (talk) 19:21, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

There is also "PROGRAMMER RYAN GOSLING" ([4]) blog — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diimdeep (talkcontribs) 18:20, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Hard to know where to start. First, the information is mostly trivia - not really about Gosling but about blogs about Gosling. Second, blogs are not reliable sources; yet, in a sense, we would using these blogs as sources for themselves. Third, the only secondary source is the MTV interview of Gosling (which itself is a trivia piece), but that is a copyright violation from YouTube and independently could not be in the article for that reason.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:27, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for this but a few more questions now. 1-Should this then be added under the heading of "External Links" or "Related Issues" or something to this effect (if youre saying its only trivia)? 2- The blogs don't give information about Gosling, true. But since they feature Gosling, would it not be interesting to say, a fan of the actor? 3- About the copyright violation which is very serious to me, can you direct me to where I can read more about why this particular instance is a violation? Would it be all right if I linked that bit to an article that spoke about him being on the MTV interview (there are a few out there, so I can do this). 4- What's this deal about trivia not being important to a Wiki page? Mickey Su (talk) 19:33, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
5thly- Any issue with the phrase "Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling" or should "Fuck" have been "****" etc?
  1. No. See WP:ELNO.
  2. No, not really, see WP:FANSITE.
  3. See WP:LINKVIO. Generally, YouTube videos can only be cited to if they are posted by an official channel of the copyright owner.
  4. Generally, we don't report on trivia. See WP:NOTRIVIA (the list of examples is not exhaustive), but it's often a judgment call.
  5. No, that's fine. See WP:NOTCENSORED.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:55, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks much. Now I just have to figure out how to get notifications for these replies so I dont have to keep checking back on this page :-o Mickey Su (talk) 04:11, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
I saw that someone had again put in a big section about these memes about Gosling. It was more detailed than the one I had put in and seemed cited. And these memes are getting to be a huge deal over the internet. But here I am, and again its gone. Who is so very very particular that this information about Gosling doesnt go up on Wikipedia? I am not able to track the changes and modifiers.
Also, can someone please tell me how I can get notifications for replies to this?!Mickey Su (talk) 19:25, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
these are getting to be a huge deal. i came here not knowing who RG is because of these memes.

Is Ryan Gosling related to James Gosling, the inventor of the Java programming language? I wasn't able to find any good information on this topic and was hoping someone did have this information.-Schnurrbart (talk) 01:29, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Mormon?

I've removed the "Mormon Actors" category until someone can provide citation. Does Gosling self-identify as Mormon? -Porlob 18:26, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

I found a citation indicating that Gosling no longer identifes as Mormon. I've added it and the Ex-Mormons category. -Porlob 19:38, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Um, was he ever self-identified as a Mormon to begin with? I think we need to see a citation as to that preexisting religious preference to even mention it.
Actually, Gosling identifies himself as "Jewish", as mentioned on the following Youtube video clip: Interview with Ryan Gosling from "Lars and the Real Girl" at 01:32 --124.187.143.148 (talk) 11:56, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
