Some Wiki background info is showing up in the article. That's beyond my skillset to fix. Deliusfan (talk) 20:29, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm referring to the first mention of the documentary Let's Get Lost Deliusfan (talk) 20:30, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Who is Ruth Young?

[edit]

I have some problems with this page. It mostly only references her connection to Chet (and name drops Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, which feels random & silly, like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon) rather than talking about her own artistry or career.

The references are a problem. They from her own website, Let's Get Lost (a sensational documentary where she talks about Chet), & Lastfm. Even a review of her album mentions her similarity to Chet right away.

I cannot find a source saying she was Chet's common-law wife. It depends on what we mean when we say that - do we mean they lived together for a time and shared a significant relationship? Yes. But the same can be said of Diane Vavra, and Chet was married with children to Carol Jackson after all. Chet and Ruth were partners, lovers, cohabitants (source needed for that by the way), sure. But we need a source to clarify what we mean when we write common-law marriage. If we're using that term as short-hand for "they lived together" - for how long, when, and where. It may just be simpler to say girlfriend, partner, companion

The Chet Baker article says Ruth was his common-law wife until the rest of his life. The photographs on Young's website depict the couple during the 70s judging by Chet's appearance and their clothing. A biography of Chet Baker by de Valk says their relationship started in '73 and fizzled out around the early 80s.

But as you can see, we're talking about Chet & who Chet was to her, how long she knew Chet, how much her music sounds like Chet. Chet has been dead for almost 40 years.

Who is Ruth Young? What has she done? What's she up to? Purplybunny (talk) 12:43, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
