Eligibility for Queen's Jubilee Medal
[edit]I'm sure I recollect that the Queen's Jubilee Medal was authorised for all uniformed service personnel in Bermuda, including members of the Bermuda Regiment, the Bermuda Police Service, the Bermuda Reserve Police, the Bermuda Fire Service, and the Saint George's Fire Brigade. If so, I'm inclined to think this ia a dubious statement: The Warrant allowed the Regiment closer ties with the British Army, enabling it to participate in United Nations missions and making members eligible for decorations such as the Queen's Jubilee Medal. Does anyone know any better? Certainly, Bermudian servicemen had received Jubilee and Coronation medals before, but I'm uncertain if that was only members of detachments sent to official ceremonies in England, or to all members in service at those times. The first statement is correct on the issue of the QJM. Members of the Bermuda Regiment were eligible for the Silver Jubilee Medal, when no such Corps Warrant was in existance, so that statement is falacious. Morgans rum 16:43, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Updates
[edit]I would like to thank the person who constantly updates the information on the Bermuda Regiment. I would like to point out that most of the photos on this web site are at least 10 years old. If they would contact Regimental Headquarters, I'm sure that the Public Relations Officer, would be more than happy to assist with updating the site.
On another issue, the affiliation with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment has never been formally ratified, in Canada and as such, in its present state is non existant. There are moves to re-invigorate this process. Morgans rum 16:50, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Right You Are
[edit]It doesn't seem like it's been ten years since I was discharged, but it will be in two months. Not much has changed, in terms of dress and equipment, except the introduction of PLCE to replace the '58 webbing. Anyway, there wasn't much on this page when I first got here so I added what I had :)

Age of pictures
[edit]Im concerned about the age of some of these pictures, I notice many show soldiers in what appears to be 84' pattern DPM. This would have been phased out in the regular army and mainland UK TA by around 1996, so its odd to see it still in use. Does bermuda recieve old stocks of 84' pattern kit or are these old pictures? WikipedianProlific(Talk) 19:28, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- The Bermuda Regiment has always been slow to adopt new kit. Denison smocks were replaced by '68 Patt. DPM Jackets only about 1980. The '58 Patt. webbing has only recently been replaced by DPM PLCE. Green lightweight trousers and shirts were fully replaced by tropical DPM shirts and trousers by the mid-nineties. The DMS high boots (with toe-caps....derived from the previous ankle boots) were being replaced in the late '90s by British standard jungle boots, although those who had the new canvas-topped boots complained bitterly about them, especially, as they were not ideal for the cold and wet of Bermuda winters). As far as I know, the the standard issue uniform is still the DPM tropical shirt and trousers (now obsolete in the UK, having been replaced by Soldier 95), green woollen pullover, '68 Patt. DPM combat jacket, nylon DPM waterproofs (not Gore-tex), dark blue beret, or DPM jungle hat. As the Bermuda Regiment receives no funding from the MOD, the local government pays for it entirely (and not over-generously..about $5 million a year, as I recollect). Consequently, the occassional talk around Warwick Camp about new rifles or other equipment has usaully turned out, for years, to be wishful thinking. The one piece of kit most in need of replacement is the rifle. The Ruger Mini-14 replaced the 7.62mm SLR in the 1980s. Though retrofitted with new stocks, the Rugers have never been loved, and are all rather long in the tooth, now.

Orbat
[edit]What is this "The Bermuda Regiment is listed in the British Army Order of Battle as number 28 in order of precedence."? I assume this refers to a list of regiments by precedence (seniority), rather than an orbat. Aodhdubh (talk) 03:13, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Slavery?
[edit]Conscription is or was common internationally. There are various criticisms of conscription, but this is the first time that I have read that it is criticised for "its similarity to slavery". Is that actually the basis for criticism in Bermuda - and elsewhere?203.184.41.226 (talk) 03:01, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
I don't think that conscription is "frequently" criticised by Bermudians, to judge from my reading of local papers. As for "aware foreigners", it is none of their business! "Sexism and its similarity to slavery" are unlikely to be common reasons for criticism, since they are both bizarre.203.184.41.226 (talk) 06:12, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
Dependence on qualities of senior officers?
[edit]What does "this leaves the force dependent on the qualities of senior officers,[citation needed] whereas similar units – the British Army, in particular, upon which the Regiment is modelled – emphasise the initiative of junior members" mean? All armies based on the British model emphasise both quality of leaders and the initiative of junior members. This has nothing to do with conscription.Royalcourtier (talk) 04:55, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
