[edit]I've put the article up as a placeholder. Working on content now. DeadEye001 (talk) 09:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Can we discuss his physique and unusual trait of rubbing his belly after he wins a fight, i think these things make him as he is.(Punisher88 (talk) 09:25, 7 September 2009 (UTC))
Why is the name of his dog placed before the name of his wife? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.12.200 (talk) 03:55, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
Birth Place
[edit]Side box says he was born in Kenton, OH article says Louisiana, which is correct? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.91.172.42 (talk) 21:21, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Roy Nelson was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. I just asked him myself yesterday. He attended Cimmaron High School. It is for an article I am writing on him that will be out shortly for Las Vegas Sports Magazine.
- Not done Word of mouth is not a relable source for our purposes, as it should be "published", that is, in a more permanent and verifiable form. No problem with citing your magazine article once it has appeared, however. Rodhullandemu 22:52, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Magazine Article "Roy 'Big Country' Nelson: Brutally Honest and A Few Wisecracks" Las Vegas Sports Magazine, January 2010. Word of mouth should probably be considered when it IS THE PERSON. Just for the record, Roy Nelson discredited Wikipedia in the interview for having this wrong for so long. Roy Nelson had lived in Las Vegas his entire life--not Louisiana, not Ohio. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Isaaccool (talk • contribs) 21:50, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- The whole point of requiring reliable sources is to provide verification for claims made in articles. "Word of mouth", however correct it is, is not independently verifiable until is is published, when it becomes a reliable source. BTW, Mrs McGufty at my local shop says that Father Christmas will be visiting there soon, but I don't believe her. I will when he turns up. Rodhullandemu 21:58, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Other names
[edit]Besdies "Big Country," Roy Nelson is also referred to as "Kung Fu Panda." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.27.168.120 (talk) 10:35, 6 December 2009
- I can't seem to find any reliable sources for that. We need to find something better like a UFC.com or Sherdog profile, or an article from a reputable source (e.g. newspaper, TV station website). —LOL T/C 13:31, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- He was announced at the final last night as "Kung Fu Panda." Had me laughing my ass off. But, yes, we'd best have a source for it (unless we want to cite the fight/card). --TreyGeek (talk) 14:49, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- bruce buffer said "kung fu fighter" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.55.170.106 (talk) 02:10, 7 December 2009
- Ah, yes, you're right. I remember Buffer saying something in regards to Nelson and Kung Fu (which had me laughing). I did do a search for "Kung Fu Panda" and "Roy Nelson." I only found some blog comments calling him that, and a reference to Rashad Evans referring to Nelson as Jiu Jitsu Panda. However, no official nickname of "Kung Fu Panda" yet. --TreyGeek (talk) 13:07, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

His fitness
[edit]Hi. I think this article should say something about the fact that Nelson's out of shape. In the fight against dos Santos, the difference in conditioning between the two men was obvious, and the commentators mentioned it frequently. Nelson has chin but his weight made him tired. - Richard Cavell (talk) 08:53, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
It turns out getting punched in the face 20 something times by a guy Dos Santos' size is really goddamn tiring. He's actually notable for, if anything, above par fitness considering his appearance. In fact, looking through the heavyweight division, his fitness is superb. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.175.217.234 (talk) 13:41, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
