Roussel's Ancestry
[edit]Why does the article say he was a Frank or a Norman? In the Alexiad, Anna clearly stated that he was a Celt.Leo-Isaurus-Rex (talk) 18:35, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- Because Byzantine authors (and Anna Komnene more than usual) took classical authors as a model, hence showing a very marked tendency to imitate them both in language and content, which led them to naming every people after their Classical analogues, i.e. the Franks as "Celts", the Turks as "Persians", the Bulgarians/Rus'/Magyars as "Scythians", etc. 94.64.239.217 (talk) 19:23, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Final Years
[edit]The final paragraph of the article, describing the year of and circumstances of Roussel’s death is contradicted by primary source Michael Attaleiates (c. 1022-1080) who has Roussel marching against John Bryennios in 1078, not against Nikephoros Botaneiates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.115.36.132 (talk) 22:47, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
