Influence of shinty

[edit]

there is no mention here of one of Ross Hockey's possible origions: Hurling ( http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Hurling )and Shinty (via the Scots and Irish Students and Teachers) http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Shinty

Hurling brings the element of playing the ball in the air, and the open hand 'catch' used in rosshockey.

Shinty brings the shoulder tackles, the center circle and goal markings and most importantly - the stick shape (very different to field hockey) Shinty was also the ancestor for ice hockey - and certain themes in the stick shape and brutality appear there too.
