Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because...

  • What information is incorrect? If someone sees something wrong, they should address it in the talk section. Incorrect information can be fixed. Deleting a page is not the answer.
  • The article is not purposefully using names of anyone, they just happen to have actually been in this band. There is no reason to draw attention to this page. No one has anything to gain by that.
  • This page is only being recommended for speedy deletion because certain former members of this group want to eradicate the fact that they were in this band for some reason.
  • The Beatles "aren't around anymore"; is anyone trying to delete their page?

The Beatles are one of the most influential bands of all time, and generates hundreds of thousands of dollars in net billing each week according to Nielsen Soundscan, This bands sales are almost non existent using the same standard of measurement, which helps prove that they aren’t worthy of the server space.

  • Other claims are irrelevant. There are plenty of bands on Wikipedia that haven't sold half of what this band has and their pages are not nominated for speedy deletion.

I know wikipedia has been cracking down on these pages as well, Hopefully this pages inability to adhere to the biographies of living persons will help expedite its removal.

  • If the problem is references, I will nominate myself to find and add them.

As Wikipedia is a non-profit organization and relies on funding it has to be understood that their server space is valuable, and can't be expected to host a page for every band in the world. I am the council of the parties who's name and likeliness are being falsely misrepresented on this page. It's clear that the author is aware of the disgruntled parties, and should in good faith honor their request to be removed. Since this hasn't happened legal action must me taken. The action of the author are nefarious and unethical, as a financial supporter and regular user of Wikipedia I am extremely disheartened by this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.105.192.36 (talkcontribs) 16:33, 14 February 2013‎

  • So if someone is "upset" about being on Wikipedia, even though the information is correct, it should be taken down? I guess we should go ahead and remove O.J. Simpson's name from the wikipedia page dedicated to the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson because it states that he was "accused." I guess it would hurt his feelings. Even though he actually WAS accused and found not-guilty in a court of law. Facts aren't as important as "feelings", right? Secondly, how are the disgruntled parties being damaged by this page? There are no negative accusations against them in any manner. Nothing that damages their name. All that is stated is that they played instruments in a rock band. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, I'm just trying to understand what the big problem is. Either way, the last names have been removed. Only first names appear now. I don't know how this will help eradicate their association with this group, as Allmusic.com and many other music websites will still display this information. But the deed has been done. Can we end this now? hsxeric (talk) 18:09 14 February, 2013 (UTC)
As reviewing administrator, I have declined the speedy deletion, but on behalf of the IP user I have nominated the article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Roses Are Red (band). That will start a discussion, lasting normally seven days, to which all are welcome to contribute (but read WP:DISCUSSAFD first). At the end an uninvolved administrator will decide what to do, based not on a count of heads but on the arguments put forward in terms of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
IP user, please be aware that Wikipedia has a strict policy of WP:No legal threats. Anyone makjing one is blocked from editing until the threat is withdrawn or the legal action concluded. Please withdraw the threat you made or implied above.
If you have concerns as someone mentioned in the article, or as representing them, there is advice at WP:Biographies of living persons/Help. JohnCD (talk) 23:33, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to make a suggestion/proposal. How about we delete the pages corresponding to all three of the band's albums? This will free up some space on Wikipedia's servers. The information presented (producer, tracklisting, performers) is available on other websites, so it is not entirely necessary to post here. Can we compromise to keep the band's page but delete the album pages? hsxeric (talk) 19:17 14 February, 2013 (UTC)
