Merger proposal
[edit]@JASpencer, Vicedomino, Patapsco913, and Johnpacklambert: I propose to merge Roman Catholic Diocese of Recanati and Loreto into Roman Catholic Diocese of Recanati. It seems they duplicate each other. (Generated using markasduplicate.js.) --Looperz (talk) 04:31, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- Strongly opposed. The two articles are NOT duplicates of one another. One cannot give dioceses new names just to suit one's convenience. It was once possible to have one bishop be bishop of two dioceses at the same time, Bishop of X e Y (Bishop of X and Y). Italian State Law and Roman Catholich Church norms now forbid it. There have been NO dioceses with the form X and Y since 1986. But these names represent different configurations of ecclesiastical power and responsibility. There is an allowed form, Bishop of X-Y, but it requires the personal consent of the pope and a decree from the Congregation of Bishops. Wikipedia bots do not have the standing to make the changes.
- Also, your proposal fails to take into account the "Prelature of Loreto" (for which there is separate page, and the "Holy House of Loreto" (for which there is a separate page). The story of Loreto and Recanati is especially complex, as the article indicates. Do not try to mess with the situation, unless you know what you are doing.
