I'll probably review this over Monday and Tuesday evening, if you don't mind the wait. Hog Farm Talk 03:12, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- No problem! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 11:11, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- Any idea why he resigned from the Militia in 1891?
- Sadly not
- "8th Division was placed in reserve on 2 November, being criticised for failing to capture Zenith trench" - was any of the criticism aimed specifically at Haig?
- Not in my sources. Cull just says that corps wasn't very happy with the division, and notes that the division that replaced it took Zenith trench on the same day. (The battalion's adjutant was quite the writer too: "It rains and rains. Corps Headquarters may storm as much as they like at the end of their telephone and vow to keep the division in the line until Zenith Trench is captured, but it just keeps on raining...the attack is postponed from hour to hour...very much to your relief, is it cancelled...Corps decides the division is hopeless and order it out of the line.")
- Is it clear which specific attack he got the first bar to his DSO for?
- No, the citation does not say. I would assume it was for Gouzeaucourt Wood, or possibly Bouchavesnes
- The lead states that the Passchendaele wound occurred in August, but the description in the prose could be read to indicate that the wound occurred on July 31.
- Corrected the lede.
- "Military history J. M. Bourne comments favourably on the" - I don't think this is quite what you wanted
- Have made a change but welcome any further suggestion from you
- I think "military historian" would be better than "military history" Hog Farm Talk 15:28, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- Oh...oh dear...I wish to sink into the earth and never reappear... Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 15:32, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- "that had successfully fought the Battle of Moreuil Wood on 30 March" - our article on Moreuil Wood refers to the affray as a German victory?
- It's a little more complicated than that, with the woods changing hands frequently and it generally being a very confusing area. Removed "successfully"
- " Mitchell-Henry, Louis. "A Family Account". The Mitchell-Henry Family. Retrieved 15 March 2022." - this looks like a person geneaological site; what makes it RS?
- Nope, I'd left it in there as a stopgap until I found a better source noting his Home Guard service, but never found one.
- Find a Grave is user-generated and should not be used
- Ibid, wanted to find a better source but didn't. Have removed information relating to it
I think that's it from me. Hog Farm Talk 03:18, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
