Question on the Diaries

I am intrigued by these diaries as I only recently became aware of them. Are they like Samuel Pepys's stuff? Are they available in a print (book) version? I would love to read something with footnotes that really explained the backstory on the people who appear. Many thanks in advance to any Roger Whitley experts out there!
