Criticisms section
[edit]Lots of serious accusations. Needs references to keep.
https://21stcenturywire.com/2014/10/08/rockefeller-foundations-futurist-paper-details-ebola-plot/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.178.27.201 (talk) 12:41, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- Indeed. In particular, the section is:
- The Rockefeller Foundation has been wrought with controversial ties, using its great wealth to support pseudoscientific fringes that resulted in the deaths of millions. A perfect example of this was its support for the eugenics movement that swept the US in the early 20th century. Some of the leading "philanthropists" endowed millions of dollars toward racial purity research. Not only was American research integral to the formulation of Hitler's racial purity ideology, but through the Rockefeller Foundation, his scientists were given millions for their own studies as the justification for Hitler's "total solution to the Jewish problem." By 1926, the Rockefeller Foundation had donated some $426,000 to German scientists. In May, 1926, the Rockefeller Foundation donated a sum of $250,000 for the creation of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Psychiatry where Ernst Rudin, the forerunner of Hitler's eugenics research, was a leading psychiatrist. In 1929, the Rockefeller Foundation submitted a grant worth $317,000 to the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Brain Research, another eugenics related institution, led by Ernst Rudin, where thousands of people were mercilessly tortured and relegated to the status of 'lab rats' for the purpose of providing further research to justify Hitler's genocide.
- I originally reverted you because there was no explanation for the blanking of the section; however, on further thought (and reading this comment), I have to say that I agree.
- Does the original author wish to cite any references to support his postion?

- I didn't have the time to write up a criticism paragraph but there seems to be pretty solid journalistic evidence linking the foundation to early 20th century eugenics (including Rudin) and its slow crossover with other population control groups and ideologies. Some initial sources I have come up with are in the external links section for now. ~~User:Unreal128 06:58, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Speaking of eugenics, I think someone needs to find references for the above (since it appears to be true). Also, I would guess the foundation is no longer promoting eugenics. However the article seems to suggest it is. Nil Einne 09:52, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, that struck me, too. I'm going to strike that out. If QuantumOne cares to replace it, I think it should have a citation showing that it's currently something the foundation pursues; else, if it's to be in the article at all, it should be said that it was a onetime pursuit and no longer. - Someone from IP 70.55.114.226 erased my external links. I noticed this a few months after the fact and put them back in. Before doing this, I made sure the links were well referenced in case someone had a legitimate reason but there was no mention in the talk. Unreal128 (talk) 10:09, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Rockefeller was cited in many wikipedia pages as a direct or indirect sponsor of many illegal/conspiracy/hidden projects, like in MKUltra and dr. Sidney Gottlieb (citing: "Many people suffered serious adverse affects consequent of research financed by Gottlieb and the Rockefeller Foundation." as said on the page of Sidney Gottlieb.) The more I look to the CIA-related pages, the more Rockfeller name sticks to my mind. They (the Rockies) cannot be the true philanthropists and the "criticism section" needs to be brought back on the page, at least to provide the other side of the view. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.102.134.213 (talk • contribs).
The article feels more like an advertisement for how philanthropist the Rockefeller Foundation is, with a link for "Applications"! I feel grace that at least we still have the limited right for this discussion without censorship. Feels like they even have power to censor Wikipedia the free? encyclopedia. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 15:15, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Some criticism definitely needs to go into this article. Most likely the center used to but does not currently support the concept of eugenics. --User:MarkPNeyer
I fail to understand how can this piece be considered an advertisement of the Rockefeller Foundation when it includes the chapter on eugenics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2404:E800:E61C:2EE:75E3:F1B3:1ECC:97A7 (talk) 14:19, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
Lifetime
[edit]Is the Foundation still around because it continues to get donations, or just because it has earned income on investments greater than 5% per year (to meet the IRS minimum donation amount)? Could it decide to spend itself out of existence? What are the constraints on the scope of its activities? -- Beland 02:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Rflogo1.jpg
[edit]Image:Rflogo1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fellowships
[edit]"Rockefeller Fellowship" redirects to this article, yet there is not a list saying who actually received a fellowship. Is there a historical site listing who was granted it, or a list buried somewhere the wiki? 71.234.215.133 (talk) 08:43, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
Eugenics reference
[edit]This reference seems out of place. I think might better be placed along with the descriptions of "notable" funded research in Early grants and connections. Medmyco (talk) 05:50, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Swami Vivekananda
[edit]Swami Vivekananda first influenced Rockefeller to be a philanthropist. Gospel of Wealth is mentioned, but why not this?117.249.114.180 (talk) 20:25, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
- Marked as dubious/discuss on page https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/John_D._Rockefeller ; and not mentioned in https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Swami_Vivekananda ; Internet has many websites filled with this story but no further referencing etc.--LS1099034 (talk) 23:33, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

COI Editing Notice
[edit]Hello: I wanted to share that I will be working on modifications and additions to this page soon. I have just started a COI/paid relationship with the Rockefeller Foundation. I have not made edits to this page before. User:Blablubbs, I see you have put an undisclosed payment banner on the page. It looks like there is certainly cause for this addition. Can you let me know what work we would need to do to eventually get that removed? Also, any users that watch this page, I'd be grateful for future assistance. They will be requesting to add new material, but the back section could use some organization and citations. It seems that in some areas there may also be some unnecessary content, like a couple of sentences on scientific neutrality in the section on the 1920s hookworm program. I will ask for input when we get to those sections. Actually, I'll ask for input and assistance on all my requests. Thank you in advance for your attention. Best! Just updating this information to say I am no longer editing Wikipedia on behalf of Rockefeller Foundation. I've also marked them out on my user page.LeepKendall (talk) 16:08, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I do not and have never had a COI with the Rockefeller Foundation or any Rockefeller or Rockefeller-affiliated institution, organization, company, project, or person. I once visited their Rockefeller Archive Center for a research project I did as part of an academic institution (Carnegie Mellon, where I studied undergraduate history), but I never was paid or affiliated with the Rockefellers. Though I met one once! I am doing a major cleanup of the article because I enjoy researching the history of public health and find it interesting. Therefore, I am doing major edits and have removed the COI tag from 2 yrs ago. If anyone wants it back please put it back. I am not being paid or compensated or benefitting in any way (other than self-satisfaction and feeding the unhealthy obsession) for any of my work on Wikipedia or this article.
