Bo Diddley

We have a persistent new editor who is keen to add Bo Diddley to the list of artists who "initially popularized" the genre, in the second paragraph. The citation for that list is this source, and it's also claimed that the inclusion of his name is justified on the grounds that he has been inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame (here) - as have 423 others.. Whether or not the cited source is reliable, and whether or not Bo Diddley is mentioned there, my view is that Bo Diddley is usually characterised, in most reliable sources, as an R&B musician who sometimes played music that could be called rockabilly. But, he is not one of the musicians who "initially popularized" rockabilly. Do other editors agree? Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:45, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Yup. Bo Diddley has been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1987), the Blues Hall of Fame (2003), and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame (2017). Not much rockabilly in any of those bodies, which are more notable than the Rockabilly HOF. Diddley 'dabbled in', rather than "initially popularized" that genre. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:28, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
